I still think it's ok...
by kiojn
to pay for sex. As long as it's with another consenting adult. I'm queer and although I don't make it a habit, I've paid for sex on a couple of occassions. Except for the out of date, oughta be taken off the books laws against prostitutiion - it should be a private family matter. Can the governor be prosecuted for what he's admitted? My understanding is that he could only be arrested if caught in the act of soliciting.

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself. I'm a man and I think it's ok to pay for sex. Well, it's ok to pay for consensual sex. If someone's selling -- willingly and of their own volition -- I don't see the problem.

Of course, non-consensual sex (what a ridiculous term for "rape") is a different matter altogether, and one that I don't think should be available for any price. But as far as I can tell we're not talking about that.

Seems to me that Spitzer's crime is one of monumental stupidity and infidelity -- he cheated on his wife (which is not cool in the first place) and got caught (which is monumentally stupid, especially for a politician). Hang him* for that if you'd like and you'll get no argument from me, but that doesn't mean that it's morally wrong to buy sex. After all, isn't that a backhanded indictment of the women (and men) who sell sex?

(For the record: I wouldn't buy sex; it's not my thing. But "I'm not interested" does not equal "it is wrong".)
