The answer to the question "could a coffe maker be worth $11,000?" is, obviously, yes, if you're the owner of a coffee shop that's now going to be able to con his customers into paying ten bucks for a cup of coffee.
Otherwise, the answer is no, of course not. The rich and the wanna-look-like-they're-rich are just tripping over themselves to find ways to display wealth. It's no surprise that one of Cafe Grumpy's locations is in Greenpoint, which used to be a perfectly decent neighborhood where working people could actually afford to live. Now they're being pushed out by the kind of ostentatious creep who would be happy to be fleeced by the owner of this ridiculous machine. I'm certainly not sorry that Grumpy's customers are getting fleeced, but I wish it wasn't at the expense of all those ordinary people getting kicked out of Greenpoint.
It would be endlessly amusing if one of these machines were to short-circuit and burn the joint to the ground. Sure, I hope there wouldn't be anyone in the place, and that there wouldn't be any injuries, especially not to the firemen (none of whom could afford to drink coffee there), but still, it might help restore my faith that there's justice in the world after all.
