So now we can't write about the holocaust either?
by robotkin

This is a good article, but the summary in which the author opposes any further reading or telling of this story "because she isn't really Jewish" is preposterous. Misha isn't a documentary or a textbook, its a story about the Holocaust. The Holocaust has become a worldwide heartfelt issue, and with that comes a great responsibility to tolerate the media that comes with it. If its a great book, a great story, and paints a positive picture, why should others not read it? The author of this Slate article did not experience WWII, while the author of Misha did, including having her parents deported and assassinated (although the weren't Jews). So in summary, Blake Eskin should shut the hell up.

robotkin, you can write anything you like about the Holocaust. you're free to read anything you like on the subject, too.

but you wonder what's wrong with a literary work that, "paints a positive picture" ? here's what''s wrong with it. MISHA was trickery. the Holocaust was a gruesome reality. embellishing the truth only fuels the fire of those skeptics who deny its horrors.

robotkin, you jump to some wild conclusions here. No one is stopping anyone from reading the book. The problem is that the author passed it off as reality. The book was called a memoir which is defined as a personal account of one's experiences. She didn't experience much of what she wrote. If it had been called a work of fiction, more power to her but she cannot intentionally mislead the public that this is what happened. As you can see from other postings in this forum, this stuff brings out the crazy and dangerous Holocaust revisionists. More fuel for the fire.

What troubles me just as much is that the author's "real" reality does sound compelling. I wish she would have written about her real life rather than a fictional account about what life she would have rather lived.

***including having her parents deported and assassinated***

Her parents were not deported and assassinated, her father was a Gestapo collaborator and traitor who was responsible for the deaths of ten people. The story was reported in Le Soir along with supporting documentation. Not only did Misha impersonate a Jew but she knew she was the daughter of a traitor who helped the Gestapo.
