Kima "retains her honor"?!?!?! You crazy, Plotz.
by Gawdfather

That's the biggest bunch of BS I've read yet in this TV Club. I know these writers don't like McNulty (unlike every other fan of The Wire I know), but her ratting out him and Lester goes down as one of the dirtiest deeds in five seasons full of 'em. May Kima forever burn in fictional hell for this. Screws two of her buddies, and potentially gives Marlo a get of jail free card. ^&#%()#$%^*$&^@#)$&.

While your reasons behind shunning Kima for ratting are completely valid, I don't think it is such a black and white decision. Remember, Kima was the one who had to interview the families of McNulty's serial killer "victims"; those family members were deeply hurt by Jimmy's actions. Also, her honest police work (Marlo's triple murder) was hindered by McNulty and Freamon's BS.

Finally, when she asked Carver about charging Colicchio, he said that he didn't like doing it, but that he felt he needed to because Tony was bordering on mental instability. I think Kima might be sensing the same thing with McNulty. In that case, ratting him out might actually help McNulty in the long run.

I am not saying that ratting them out is the right thing to do; I am just pointing out that it is not an easy decision, and there are good reasons to support each side of the argument.

Since Marlo is responsible for her triple homicide there wasn't really any hindrance. I really don't think they did a good enough job of explaining her motivation in ratting out McNulty. Right or wrong there is a code you have to follow when you're a cop and part of it is you don't snitch on another cop. Bunk understands that as horrified as he is by McNulty's actions there is no way he was ever going to say anything. It's not like we've seen Kima buck the way things are in the past. When Bodie hit that drunk cop she came running to help beat him down with a baton and kick him. Most people would say that was wrong but thats what you do when someone hits another cop. I agree the parents interview was supposed to be part of the reason but it didn't affect her enough for such an about face especially when Freemon and Sydnor were also ok with it.

I know the whole "stop snitchin'" thing applies to cops as much as it applies to gangbangers and drug dealers, but maybe Kima being female changes the rules a little. She can get away with breaking the male code whereas a guy couldn't.

And I'm patting myselef on the back since I correctly predicted who shot killed in the truck. Snoop got got!

Also, don't forget about when Kima joined Jay Landsman and others to beat the crap out of Bird in the interrogation room way back in Season One. Bird totally deserved the beating he got, but technically that is police brutality. Did Kima turn herself in for that crime? I thinks not!
