Those Dopes in Uniform
by mlr

When people talk about steroind use, they always talk about athletes, be they professional or high school.

What I've been worrying about for a while is steroid use in the armed forces. Are would be marines, rangers, special forces and Navy Seals using steroids? I'm not concerned that they might be cheating, but is it right to allow servicemen ruin their bodies in the service of our country? (I know, I know, that would a hilarious question if our current circumstances weren't so tragic.)

Step away from the bong, what the hell have you been smoking dude.

Have you seen anything, while you where straight, that indicates that there is any trend towards steroid use in the military? The whole concept goes against any logic.

Special forces, all of them, are looking for lean and deadly with tons of self-control. More wash out for physic than physical. High muscle bulk and unpredictable is counter to everything required to get in. Special forces = fast twitch muscle over bulk.

All other armed forces are pretty easy to get into all you have to do is meet the minimum physical training requirements. There is absolutely no career benefit to extra muscle bulk and the first example of roid rage is likely to be extremely detrimental to chances for advancement.

Dude, remember just because it pops into your delusional mind doesn’t make it so. Hell based on your post it doesn't even make it likely.

Ah, the wonder that is the Fray! You ask a question and you get answers. I thank you both.

The question is very simple; Should the military provide drugs that enhance performance to troops even if these drugs have negative impacts on the health of the soldiers?

Since you understand war so well, I assume the answer is 'yes, shoot them up' since doing so increases their ability to kill.

So what if these soldiers did because of these drugs when they are in their early 40s or so! They were better soldiers when we needed them!

Hey the guys reply was slopy but the 'what if' question is interesting; is it right to allow servicemen ruin their bodies in the service of our country?

As these drugs and other techniques improve this 'what if' question will be interesting. Take lazar eye surgery. I can see this being mandated for everyone since having glasses is a risk and why not use surgery to ensure every soldier is 20 \ 20.

OR say in the future there is eye surgery that increase night vision but MAY in the long run lead to blindness. Well why not force this surgery on some of the troops anyway. This way they are the best they can be!

Yes, this is Sci Fi, but as medicine advances these will be questions we have to face. IF an asshole like Rummy was still in change AND the medicine was there MY GUESS is that he would use it regardless of what it did to our troops!
