Unprofitable Wal-Marts

Wal-Mart does sometime love to close its stores... when they're "unprofitable". Obviously, with goods made for practically nothing in China, a workforce deprived of overtime or healthcare, and an ever-expanding base of customers that cannot afford to meet their shopping needs elsewhere, that doesn't happen often. But in Canada, the laws are slightly different-- and if the electorate in a given province recognizes the existence of a union, the Union is guaranteed a first contract as long as the business is standing. So they classify any store that gains a recognized union as unprofitable just as soon as nnegotiations begin-- profits be damned. It would be a travesty to set a decent precedent.
