all had one thing in common: the incumbent President was not running for reelection. Clinton and Reagan had some incentive to help their Vice Presidents get elected, but that's not as great as trying to get reelected yourself. Based on that, since Bush is not running for reelection (and neither is Cheney, for that matter), unless he happens to feel really strongly about McCain, we won't see any more "disasters" than usual.
