I don't know why this man should be praised in death. Maybe he was a good father, or a good friend, but his politics were poison. His intellectual arguments provide cover to the very anti-Semites, racists, et al, from whom he supposedly distanced himself - a neat trick. How about this - he was an ivory tower intellectual whose pretzel logic allowed him to take any position, no matter how offensive, as long as he presented it with wit and elan. Bully!
