Neither Hillary nor Obama can beat
by mrliberal
McCain in the fall.Too many red states that won't vote for a female or a black candidate, no matter what the polls will say about that. People lie to pollsters, except of course, mr liberal, he never lies.

As trolls go, you aren't especially good.

You'll be posting here under a different ID, if at all, after Obama is inaugurated.

If American white male and female democrats won't vote for a black candidate, why have they already voted for a black candidate in the primaries?

Obama can win. All he has to do is win everything that Kerry did (easy) PLUS ohio, which Bush won by a 2.11% margin.

The Republicans can't win Ohio now because Ohio is being hit hard by foreclosures. 9th highest rate in the nation. Republicans will surely keep states like Wyoming, where the real estate crisis is not happening(45th highest rate). But they're going to lose far more than just Ohio this november.

It's even better than that. Obama/Clinton do need to win everywhere that Kerry won (if anyone can offer a convincing argument of any state that Kerry won that Obama/Clinton can't, I'd like to hear it), and, obviously, needs to win somewhere else, too, but consider this:

Obama/Clinton stand a very very good chance of winning the rapidly-going-blue Virginia (VA's Democratic governor Kaine and Senator Webb are incredibly popular...and that's without even getting into the strong downticket coattails that will be afforded the presidential nominee thanks to the massively popular Mark Warner on the Senate ballot), and with it, 13 electoral votes.

After that, one need only look at Iowa (7 EVs) or Colorado (9 EVs) or Missouri (11 EVs) and, combined with Virginia, that's an additional 20-24 electoral votes right there, without even getting into my own home state of Ohio (or Florida, for that matter).

20-24 electoral votes to be had without worrying about Ohio and Florida! Did I mention Kerry only fell 19 EVs short?

'The Republicans can't win Ohio now because Ohio is being hit hard by foreclosures.'

all the bankers are republicans, no? of course they couldn't blame their own speculating and demanding funny, upside down loans and only paid interest on them because they thought they would hold them for two years and make a gazzilion, and then turn the property.

but it's the republicans fault it didn't turn out that way.

you really think people are stupid, don't you?

tardboy... Bush and Greenspan created the housing bubble.

tax cuts+decifit spending+low rates= credit clusterfuck.

McCain just barely came off clean in the S&L crisis. I doubt Ohio will elect one of Keating's clueless buddies this november. It doesn't matter how bankers vote. What matter is, Bush ruined the economy, especially in Ohio. Advantage, dems.

Re: Neither Hillary nor Obama can beat

You're talking about 40% of Democratic voters. So, in effect, a minority of roughly half the population is voting in Democratic primaries, hardly a good indicator of things to come.

To date Democrats voting in primaries outnumber Republicans voting in primaries by 21 million to 13 million or about 3 to 2.

The Democrats, as is their wont, can still screw things up by nominating Clinton. Barring that remote possibility, the Republicans will be crushed in November.

Both Clinton and McCain are closer to the center than Obama is, and they both have records of stances that are moderate in some places and then match their party's general outlook in others. Obama, on the other hand, doesn't have a public record to speak of.

I think the Democrats, especially the more vocal ones from Hollywood, forget that the same vote they try to win every cycle, the Independents, tend to be just as distrustful of Liberals and Conservatives - Obama is not necessarily getting Independents excited...he is getting dyed-in-the-wool-Liberals excited. Frankly, I think most Independents think he is more of the same kind of unelectable candidate that they didn't rally behind in the last two elections. And, once again, Democrats seem to get wrapped up in their candidate so much that the actual business of confronting McCain seems to be lost on them.

Bottom line: If Obama starts criticizing McCain, which is what he will need to do in order to win the general election, I predict his likeability will start to plummet. Mainly because he will come off as a whiner who needs another term in the Senate under his belt. "Change" and "Hope" are fine for a speech, but it won't get you too far when we need real answers to major issues.

Obama can come off as an extreme, anti-government figure at times, and that is a turn-off to most Independents.

"Obama, on the other hand, doesn't have a public record to speak of."

How's that again? Barack Obama has been a legislator longer than Hillary Clinton.

Perhaps you can tell me where Hillary Clinton supporters come up with this stuff. BTW, would it surprise you to learn that Clinton spent 15 out of her 35 years of "public service" working as a corporate lawyer?

Obama 08!

Really? On what? Seems to me that while Clinton and Obama are pretty close on almost every issue, Obama is slightly more centrist, especially on his health care proposal which does not include a mandate.
