Obama Won Debate, Nomination, Election
by MikeSar

The new polls show a commanding lead by Obama which means the waiting begins, waiting for Sen. Clinton to give up and save some of her money. She may now have enough to pay back her own loan of untold millions.

Republicans do not have chance. Iraq is bad enough, with the 4,000 number looming, and the Recession is coming, economic experts tells us, almost daily. In the middle of a deep recession, with no end in sight, after the "rebates" fail, as predicted, will anybody vote Republican, you think?

The only hope is if Pres. Bush accepts the strong recommendation of State Governors that are demanding the next "economic stimulous" be used to repair roads, schools and other infrastructure. In short: Put people to work. I wonder why nobody remembers that this was what FDR and Ike did to help the economy, It worked!

It doesn't matter who wins the office of POTUS. Things won't get better. All of the nominees are losers.

I am afraid the New Deal did not work as intended, in other words, end the depression. It was a band-aid on a sucking chest wound, but it did help many people. What ended the Depression was WWII.

Incidentally, as we continue to pour money into the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, where is all this money supposed to come from? When it comes to the National Debt and deficit spending, one could easily argue that Bush is, indeed, making history, just not the way he intended.

While not yet willing to count Billary out just yet, I hope you are right insofar as Obama is concerned.

I think it is pretty hard to actually say where the effects of the war kick in. The unemployment rate in 1933 was 24%, but was down to 9% in 1941. When did we actually start spending significant dollars on defense? It surely wasn't after December 7.

By 1940 the war in Europe would have been a drag on the non-defense sector of the economy as well.

I'd think it tough to actually say that the new deal was either a success or a failure, just because of the number of factors involved.

Hope, and the appearance of help
by NickD

FDR salved the nation by giving the vast majority of the nation hope. He made the entire population understand that the nations leaders were aware of the horrible situation they faced and gave them hope that solutions were coming.

Men with families to feed were able to look forward to a job that would let them survive. This country very easily could have fallen to the communists during that time had FDR not given 85% of the population hope that they too had a future in America.

Today with our national debt at over ten trillion dollars and our industrial base sold out to communist China, Obama is offering hope to the generations that will have to pay off the debt and rebuild the country. It will not be an easy task since we boomers have done such a good job of screwing up the country. I think Obama has the right to offer the next generations some hope that this country can be fixed because I, like they, am also tired of the same old crap on a different day.

One of the worst presidents we've ever had was Herbert Hoover. He did absolutely nothing to bring us out of the depression. He was one of those "government is bad" kind of republicans. FDR took office in the face of almost overwhelming bad news. He sought solutions and at the same time as working to fix the domestic economy, worked towards preparing us for a world war......

McCain wants to take over from another of the worst presidents we've ever had, but he thinks more of the same is what we need....more tax cuts, more war in Iraq.

Bush said he would make our country stronger, but we have the same number of people in the military as we did in 2001. We are spending billions on his version of star wars and hundreds of billions on the war in Iraq.....

We need a leader who will lead us away from the policies that are wrecking the military and ruining the economy.....

I'm with you....Barak is the guy.
