Flabbergasted
by Gamer-Chick

Wow - I've been reading posts all over the place stating that Democrats are not going to vote for the Democratic nominee if the candidate they support doesn't win?!?! Are you freaking serious?!?! No wonder we can't seem to win a freakin' election. We're just emerging from the WORST 8 YEARS in recent American history. The Republican party has gone insane with power. AND a bunch of lamo's are going to switch teams because the primary is getting a little nasty on both sides? I don't understand Democrats at all? People do understand that there is a difference between the parties right?

OMG - apparently we don't deserve to have the White House because Democrats are apparently morons!

If you happen to know any of these "I'll vote for McCain if ..." morons - Please, for the love of God, PLEASE, talk some flippin' sense into them. McCain will simply be an extension of the current administration.

I hope it's just people blowing off steam. I'm guilty of saying moronic stuff too, but the idea of 4 or 8 more years of this BS just freaks me out.

Its mostly just people blowing steam during a tight nomination process. I am supporting Obama but will vote for Hillary of she gets the nod. Hopefully others from both camps will be mature enough to do the same.

Going to say amen to that. Not that I like Hillary. Heck, Bill annoyed me enough in 1996 (signing Gingrich's vicious welfare reform and Defense of Marriage Act for the 96 election, plus lying repeatedly about my Senator Dole) that I actually did vote Dole. I figured that if Bill was rubberstamping Gingrich, I might as well have a more honorable guy in the White House (I know Dole, and he is).

But, it's too important now, and McCain is too risky. Not that it even matters (I'm in Kansas, which is never voting for Clinton), but, if Hillary is on the ballot, I'll close my eyes, pretend it says "Ruth Bader Ginsberg", and vote for her.

I am one of the more adamant Obama supporters here.

I am NOT a democrat.

While Bush and his cronies - and republicans at large - have proven to be the worst administration and provide the worst government in the history of this country... I believe blind loyalty to a party is unhealthy.

That's what got us here in the first place.

The republicans used to be a reasonable party; Eisenhower was one of the best presidents, and republicans in congress used to be genuinely concerned about spending money and tying ourselves to foreign control... That served as a good balance against the democratic party's general desire to help everyone and right every wrong...

But the party changed, and people stuck with the party - BECAUSE it is the party. Now, the republicans are a cesspool of waste and endless spending, so long as the spending doesn't help anyone that needs it... and they are fiercely proud of their desire to bomb every country that they don't like, and tie ourselves down with horribly unfair treaties to every country we do... as well as pollute and exploit as much of the world as possible... But people voted for them JUST BECAUSE OF THE PARTY LABEL.

That simply is unacceptable.

It removes any accountability from the officials within that party, because they can ensure support regardless of what they do. Period.

While the republicans have sunken into some for of fantasy evil cult seeking to destroy any vestige of future success in America to enrich the top 1%... the democrats have taken advantage of this by consistantly falling farther themselves - content in the fact that they can remain the lesser of two evils as long as they don't go as far as the republicans...

I am not a part of this downward spiral. I still believe in accountability and I cannot and will not - under any circumstance - support a politician that has crossed certain lines. One of those lines is disregarding the lives and well being of millions of innocents and thousands of U.S. troops and potentially trillions of dollars for a short-term bump in the polls.

Hillary authorised a recreational war for no reason other than weathervane popularity-of-the-moment.

If she wins the nomination - I'll either vote 3rd party, or stay home.

If you find this position stupid, I'll remind you that Bush won simply because millions of people that disagree with him on every issue voted for him - just because of his party... A government without accountability is no longer democracy.

Tundra - I don't disagree with you on blind loyalty being bad, but I do believe that a McCain Presidency would be an extension of the Bush years. I will vote for a Democrat to keep the voting block strong to avoid that at all costs. I understand your opinion of Hillary and share it, but I will vote for her if she gets the nom.

And isn't really addressed at your point, but I find it amusing nonetheless

"That served as a good balance against the democratic party's general desire to help everyone and right every wrong..."

A quote from your message. I think it's important to remember that the Democratic party was known for being the hotbed of the KKK. They haven't always been the symbol of liberty, equality, and fraternity (are Liberals turning into Jacobins?), and likewise Republicans haven't always been the symbol of rigid religious dogma. Times will change.

I question whether Obama has the ability to dampen that pendulum swing or whether he will give it a good shove and push it so far to the left that in 8 years there will be a similar Republican coup like is happening now on the Democratic side. Government should be responsive to the people, ALL the people not just Liberals (or Republicans for that matter).

Your poor assumption is that the people who are saying they'll vote for McCain are democrats, they aren't they are independents. All polls say that independents will first vote for Obama and then McCain.

You want a Democrat in office? Then listen to the larger segment of independents and vote Obama.

I think some Democrats actually liked McCain back in 2000.

That's far too logical a post for this site, you are going to confuse people. Blind loyalty to party is the be-all end-all of todays political world, even when the party switches positions and ideologies. It seems people are just more comfortable not having to think through issues, instead opting to mimic whatever their party tells them.

The only way that would happen is if Clinton dropped out now, not in August as seems to be her current plan.

If you think a McCain presidency is a bad idea, sign this petition here:

<link>

"Dear Senator Hilary Clinton,

This petition respectfully and humbly requests that you make what may be the hardest decision of your public life and withdraw from the 2008 presidential contest. Your service to this country, passion about the issues and qualifications to be President are recognized by any fair-minded observer. In addition to your many accomplishments and service in the US Senate, you have come closer to the US presidency than any woman in history while bringing many important issues and positions to the national discourse. We now call on you to act as a statesman and perform a noble service to the nation by suspending your campaign. As is often the case in history, and had been the case in your life before, you are being asked to serve in a way that is so cruelly different from the way you imagined.
