When did we start calling our Presidents by the last name
by BarryB87

I read Michael Kinsley's article, "No the surge is not a success". I will concede to Mr. Kinsley's vast military know-how. My question is, When did we start calling our Predidents only by their last names. To me it is so disrespectful of the office of the presidency. It doesn't matter if the president is Democrat or Republican or wheither you agree with them or disagree. Respect is respect and the office of the Presidency is to be respected.

Please note, while I strongly disagree with Mr. Kinsley, I do not call him Kinsley!

The far left in this country really seems to show their disdain for this President is every way imaginable. In my oppinion it is sad that in a country where we are permitted the freedom to criticize the policies of our leaders, we haven't the common courtesy to address them in a manner of respect that they deserve, Democrat or Rerpublican!

Have you forgotten about the right calling Clinton "Slick Willie"? Selective memory is so useful....

Or remember Rush Linbaugh's short-lived TV show incident from Limbaugh's TV show, in which he joked: "Everyone knows the Clintons have a cat. Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is a White House dog?" And he puts up a picture of the 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton.

Kinda puts the whole last-name disrespect thing in perspective, doesn't it?

Yep and the republicans refused to even use FDR's name, referring to him only as "that man in the White House".

Here's your respect
