Roderick Jaynes
by slippedvoussoir

My favorite part of the night was when they showed the picture of Roderick Jaynes for best editor.

1. Who was that guy?

2. What would have happened if Jaynes won? Would the Coens have gone up to accept it "in his honor?"

I suspect they lost that one because the academy wanted to avoid such a confusing spectacle. It was bad (and by bad I mean fantastic) enough to watch Joel Coen riff on "Henry Kissinger: Man of Mystery" or whatever he said.

The presenter would've accepted the award for Roderick Jaynes on behalf of the Academy.

I was hoping for "Roderick Jaynes" to win precisely for that reason. Well, that and the fact that it was good editing, unlike in Bourne Ultimatum, which nearly made me physically ill.

I expect that the Coen brothers would have accepted the award "in his honour."

I read that they don't allow people to accept on behalf of other people after Marlon Brando sent a Native America woman to accept his Oscar for the Godfather.

I don't know if that rule is relaxed when the people who are nominated don't really exist.

I haven't seen any of the Bourne movies, but I got the impression they used a lot of jump cuts, which can dizzying. Is that correct?
