hansard/irglova relationship
by Sunny08
Is ANYONE else a little creeped out about the Glen Hansard/Marketa Irglova relationship?? He's 38, she is 19. They met because he has known her family since she was something like 12. Maybe I'm old fashioned...just seems to make the whole thing less charming as much as icky and pretty much just wrong. Could he turn around to look at her anymore frequently between the lyrics? Don't worry dude...she's not going to run off with a younger man in the middle of the song. And what about the other group award recipients who didn't get to go back on stage to say their thank you's? The opportunity was only given to a teenager who rambled something about....something.

A. It's been mentioned more than once by Hansard that he told himself that she was too young for him and it was just wrong. But, she had also been having similar feelings and they overcame the age barrier.

B. I don't see how his looking at her during the performance is creepy if only because it absolutely fits the song. He does the same exact thing in the movie.

C. So what if she's 19 and he's 38?

As for her coming out again, Hansard's speech wasn't that long and I think that the orchestra thought that the speech was over when he was done (why...we'll never know). She didn't ramble. Her speech was one of the best of the evening. She said quite simply that dreams are necessary. A nice sentiment in a year of dark, nightmarish films.

I guess that there is exactly my point...he thought about it, told a teenager how he felt, then she acted on it. I just know how well I actually knew myself and members of the opposite sex at 19. Though I do see she seems mature...to each his own. If this was a neighbor telling another that her 19 year old daughter was involved with a 38 year old man, would it sit a bit differently for people? I'm not trying to convince here; just posing food for thought. I know it would concern me if my teenager thought she had enough in common with a near-40 y.o. to date him. Everyone is different...it's what makes the world go round. I get it.

I didn't say she talked too long. Just that I don't feel the fluff was anymore deserving of a second chance than anyone else who stood by while their coworker talked just long enough to be cut off by the music.
