Hillary Clinton at the State of the Black Union
by arlinder

I think Senator Obama is wonderful, but I was awed by the guts of Senator Clinton as she faced a very one-sided crowd on live television yesterday. After hearing Al Sharpton's ramp-up of the crowd, I would not have blamed her if she feigned illness and left the premises. The lone Senator took the stage and gave a pretty okay speech to a full house at the annual State of the Black Union conference. But then she sat down and took some pretty hefty questions from Tavis Smiley and held her own. She did it in a way that made you think that those who doubt her ability to bring people together are dead wrong. It was really something to see. If Senator Obama does not win the nomination, no Democrat should feel shorted by having Senator Clinton. They are both pretty wonderful options. Was Hillary Clinton at the State of the White Union?

Dems seem to enable all the racist groups. What's up with that?

she didn't come off well in my eyes. her husband denigrated blacks in the south carolina campaign. she did not apologize for his predjudice and comments she said they regretted making them. that is a huge difference that i don't think was lost on the crowd. her arrogance shined thru clearly.

I disagree. From their commentary throughout the program, it was obvious that many of the panelists and the audience were disappointed with the Clinton camp. They were even cold to those on the panel who were supporting Senator Clinton--some whom even felt they had to defend their position. You could feel the uneasiness on both sides--from her and the audience--when she walked up to the podium. If this audience felt for a moment Senator Clinton was being disingenuous we would have heard it. Did you hear it? Did you hear even one "boo?" The audience listened and then there was a quiet. It was a "this lady's okay" quiet. It wasn't a "this lady's full of crap quiet." If that was the case, it would not have been quiet and there was nothing Tavis could do to control that. She had to know the situation was volatile and had the potential to be disastrous, and she still stepped out there. That says a lot about Senator Clinton. By the way, she was the only candidate to show up and all four of the frontrunners were invited. That says something as well.

the quiet was we are listening tell us you apologize. she said she regreted and that was all. the quiet politely continued.

she had to make the trip to try to mend fences. she wasted her time. obama does not have to mend fences he could continue campaigning.

her lack of an apology to the blacks like her lack of an apology for her iraq war vote and her sense of the senate that it was ok for "w" to bomb iran makes her damaged goods in her electorial campaign. her arrogance continues.
