Obamamaniac
by Vez
I here ya! not sure how serious you are but I am....there's something about Obie I don't like...am so sick of "yes, you can" speeches like we're all at an evangelical service and everyone's caught up in the "yes, Lord" like we're all sheep. Once again the Americans are into the charm thing.. only this time it isn't the cowboy boots and the swagger it's the "yes you can" cheer. PLEASEEEEEE...can't we elect someone who is just smart?!! The media still doesn't get it but do we??

Saying there's just "something" about the man you don't like instantly disqualifies you as a rational member of this community, honey. The man has a website and his policy positions are on it. To moo your vague criticisms based on your "knowledge" of him -- which no doubt consists of watching 10 minutes of a victory speech on CNN and scrolling through a few "horse race" articles like this on Slate -- is like watching a movie trailer and then criticizing the movie for lack of character development. Grow up.

Of course, you're entitled to just "not like" something about a politician. However, I honestly don't understand what you mean about "just smart." Obama was the president of Harvard Law Review and taught constitutional law at Chicago, one of the most intellectually rigorous universities in the world. You don't get either job on charm and good looks. You have to have native, absolute intelligence AND a strong drive, both of which are excellent traits in a president.

"Instantly Disqualifying" people who have their own opinions instantly disqualifies you as a rational member of this community, honey. Yes, he has a website. Yes, he has positions. However, many candidates in years past have had "positions" that they have been unable or unwilling to actually act on once they were elected.

As for "vague criticism" well, haven't you ever just "had a feeling" about something? I'm not saying anyone should just elect a candidate based on intuition, but intuition should at least be expressed and perhaps followed up on.

The fact is that Barack is promising a bunch of stuff that he will never be able to act on, just to get himself into the White House. I bet if he gets elected, there's going to be a whole different agenda than the one you think you know so much about based on a freakin' website.

So, let's see: we're either to base our decisions on how to vote on a candidate's published "websites" and "positions," or on "'ha[ving] a feeling' about something," "intuition," and what we "bet" the candidate might do if elected? Glad we cleared up that up. I'd hate to be all irrational about it.
