idiocy cuts across religious lines
by starsha

i looked at one of those cartoons. it was boring. this whole trumped-up republican cause celebre is boring.

crazy people do crazy things for stupid reasons. this week, a crazy man walked into a college and shot half a dozen kids learning about the environment. kenya is teetering on the brink of falling to bits.

and you are still fixated on the idiots who get their panties in a bunch about stick figures. oh yes, they are idiots, but it just doesn't matter. those cartoons weren't printed here because they were lame, as is their point: poking the "scary" muslims with sticks and seeing what they'll do next. i mean, build a gay porn shop next to the westboro baptist and see what they do.

your fixation on only muslim idiocy has begun to reek, mr. hitchens.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you. Whether or not the cartoons of Muhammad were lame is irrelevant. At the time it happened, it was a pretty major news story. Articles should attempt to cover a story as throughly as possible, and leaving out the cartoons leaves out pretty much the entire crux of the controversy.
Tell Salman Rushdie about "scary" moslems....

I am sure he laugh with you at this absurd idea.

You see, the problem is - journalists have a very good reason to be scared of moslem activists. For example, the guys who drew the cartoons are under 24 hour police protection. It's not a "piss christ" deal here - when he fight was whether the taxpayers should be forced to fund this anti-christian crap or not (amazingly, the same liberals who don't want to reprint the cartoons and who are against any jokes on islam - were the people who believed it was a violation of freedom of speech not to fund the anti-christian propaganda). The true issue in the West right now is simple - will we have the blasphemy laws in our society or not. Will a small but violent minority limit our freedom of speech.

Yes, because...as you know...Hitchens is a great supporter and practitioner of the Christian religion. You're not a moron at all.

Piss off a Jew and he yells anti-semite

Piss off a Christian and he takes flight

Piss of a Muslim and he will take your life

if there was a few million westboro baptist church's than your comparison would be fair...

If you look at this as a Republican issue, you are too far gone to be persuaded. Your freedom, your way of life is in grave danger. Not this year or next, but in this lifetime. And you're too stupid and cowardly to stop it. I will not surrender with you. Those who can continue to see no real difference between lone nuts and fringe christian churches and the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of muslims that want you living under sharia law, then you are a waste of oxygen.

What fixation on muslim idiocy are you talking about? In the past few months Hitch has written on the "idiocy" of Mormonism, Christianity and Judaism for Slate alone.
