Let's go waterboarding
by yastfort

Sounds like fun. It might even become a Summer Olympic event. The US wins the first Gold Medal in Waterboarding! Attempted drowning doesn’t sound like fun at all. We’ve cleaned it up greatly with a better name.

We’ve already improved character assassination by calling it Swiftboating. Pork barrel politicking, conjuring up greedy powerful politicians, is now Earmarking. Doesn’t sound so bad.

Why abort when you can Birthskip. Running late on your lunar schedule? Ask your doctor if birthskipping is right for you.

Gun Control turns NRA types (you know who you are) livid. Let’s lower their cortisol levels by calling it Bulletconserving. Congress should pass bulletconserving measures to limit the spread of lead in our education safe zones.

I’d think of more but I’ve got to go make my plantfoodcontribution in my dedication to globalfrostproofing.

You don't seem to understand the meaning of the term Swiftboating. Swiftboating does not assassinate the character, it reveals the character.

As it did in the case of John Kerry (a more despicable individual than any who have ever appeared in American public life) Swiftboating, that is using the truth to expose lies and deceit, showed Kerry up for the lying traitor he is.

Swiftboating is permanently ingrained in our lexicon as a tool for truth and good.

You have water on the brain if you believe that, Jack. No one familiar with the term "swiftboating" thinks it's "a tool for truth and good." Even other ring wingers associate the term with lying, misrepresentation and character assassination. It's about propagating a series of lies in service to a questionable agenda.

CaliforniaDreamin responds to Burke's MASSIVE LIE:

1. John Kerry betrayed his former comrades in arms and his country. As despicable as Jane Fonda's conduct was when she gave aid and comfort to the enemy, John Kerry's was much, much worse. Kerry swore an oath as an officer and SUPPOSEDLY a gentleman. John Kerry is no "gentleman."

2. The highly decorated veterans of Swift Boat Veterans against John Kerry had absolutely no political agenda. I donated money to them and wrote passionately against Kerry. They told me to keep my politics out of it. To them, this was about betrayal, pure and simple.
Kerry BETRAYED his country. HE BETRAYED his former fellow sailors and soldiers. And as a direct consequence, Kerry was discharged less than honorably from the U.S. Navy.
For that reason, Kerry REFUSES to release his DD Form 214, despite his promises to do so.

So STOP YOUR DESPICABLE LYING, BURKE.

T Boone Pickens offered $1,000,000 to anyone who could prove ONE SINGLE LIE by the Swift Boat Veterans.
Kerry said he would provide that proof and collect.
But Kerry lied. He did no such thing. He made no effort because he knows he cannot prove it.

No lies, Cal. The Swift Boaters provided no hard facts about Kerry's service and citations, and they were taken to task for their lack of first hand knowledge.

There's a good summary of stories here covering the Swift Boaters as their credibility fell apart. Follow them here, from Media Matters for America.(These good folks also included quotes and links of some conservative writers who lend credence to the SB's claims). Another good summary of the situation and how the Swift Boater claims were eventually shown to lack substance can be read here, courtesy of Factcheck.org.

It's generally agreed that there was a gaping lack of substance to the Swift Boater's claims and that there was a political agenda behind the attacks.
