christopher hitchens is a dope
by caseyh23
mr. hitchens is a dope. the man has absolutely no respect for religion. i don't know why his opinion on a candidate for the US presidency's religion is even published as an intelligent opinion. he is obviously very close minded, doesn't have the ability to understand other people's perspectives, and does poor research. he attacks things he knows nothing about. you can't just rail on someone's religious experience because of some things that you think you have heard. if mormon's really believed all the things you think, how do you explain the fact that hundreds of thousands of people join that church every year, even many people of african descent might i add. many people who are successful, logical, and much more intelligent than christopher hitchens, belong to the mormon church. thats fine if he doesn't care for mr romney, but he doesn't have to go attacking an entire religious community. when you think about all religions, isn't it all illogical, and improbable. faith is a requirement of all people who are trying to make sense of the world we live in. even scientists have to accept many principles of evolution and the big bang theory on faith. not everything makes perfect sense. what if i said that all christians are nuts because they think some illegitimate child 2000 years ago died for their sins? what if i said that all jews are nuts because they believe god talked to a man in a burning bush 4000 years ago? how about if i pointed out that john calvin, founder of the presbyterian faith, had a man burned at the stake for believing in a different interpretation of the bible than his? that is the same thing that mr. hitchens is doing with mormonism. do a little of your own research, and i'm talking about real research, finding out information from both sides of the story, and you can answer many of the questions that mr. hitchens has raised about mitt romney's faith. romney doesn't answer many of the questions that people want him to answer because it would just lead to even more criticism and more people tearing him and his church down. many of the answers to those questions raised by hitchens require people to learn much more about the mormon church than they are willing. it requires more understanding than most people are able to give. you have to understand the whole story of a group of people, just like with any other faith. regardless of what the founding fathers themselves believed about god, they did believe that everyone had a right to worship or not worship in their own way. people shouldn't be criticized on their faith and their willingness or unwillingness to answer baited questions about it.

Baited questions?....No Mitt refuses to answer any questions.

I can't say that i blame him. I would'nt want to get specific about saying God lives on planet Kolob either.

FABULOUS!

A lot of people have come to post, pretended they were mormons, and then made UNBELIEVABLY stupid posts--all just to get a laugh.

But you've done it best! You're a comic genius.

Congratulations! You completely missed the point of Hitchens' article. A few reactions / thoughts on your post:

1) It is difficult to take you seriously due to the number of non sequiturs and otherwise illogical attempts to convince others to feel the way you feel. Passion alone isn't going to pursuade me.

2) Who really cares if plenty of Mormons are "more successful, logical, and much more intelligent than christopher hitchens"? This proves what? And I should believe this why? Obviously you're just trying to insult Hitchens, and it seems childish.

3) What's the whole thing about "research"? Can you be more specific? What do you think Hitchens is leaving out?
