Autistic People
by abfh

Hi Arthur. I'll admit that my parents probably considered me unruly, and a struggle to deal with at times, and perhaps even unresponsive on occasion (such as when they told me to clean my room). I'd appreciate it, though, if you would not use the word "healthy" as the opposite of autistic. There are many autistics who consider ourselves to be just as healthy as anyone else.

Good job kicking antivax butt, and I wish you success with your book.

Sincerely,

abfh

Hurray for the author, for showing that the antivax people don't have an leg to stand on. The antivax, gluten-free vitamin-swilling parents of autistic parents deserve help, though. Their search for something that brings hope to their difficult problem is a symptom of grieving for their kids -- the "off the rack," ready to wear, soccer-playing little drones that everyone else has. They need help so they can celebrate the autistic kids they have.
I have a child with Asperger's Syndrome. I could be wishing that he were out with neurotypical kids. Instead, I'm glad that he's not out with neurotypical kids, getting in trouble and hanging out somewhere he shouldn't be. I have a bumper sticker on my car that reads: My Asperger's Kid Aced the Test Your Honor Student Studied All Week For. That's the attitude parents of autistic kids need!
Someday, science will find a vaccine that gives us the abilities of our fantastic autistic kids. A cure for neurotypicalism, that's what we need.
Celebrate neurodiversity!
