Well, yes I do find Bishop Shelby Spong to be credible.

Of course, I make no claims to being Christian.

Shelby Spong is okay, ...but he can be a bit of a christian apologist on occasion.

Now I really like the guy who wrote "Misquoting Jesus." I heard he just has a new book out....

Strange isn't it that those who teach GOD'S WORD in spirit and in truth are only of interest to Christians while those who twist and distort are of interest to non Christians.

Perhaps because the version of G_d that you believe in is utterly despicable?

Not the case at all, but I can see how someone without understanding could come to that conclusion. It is especially easy for those who would rather ignore GOD'S instructions in favor of their own desires.

So, what Barkley's basically saying is that true Christians aren't supposed to be running around acting like judge and jury, because the Bible (Jesus specifically, I believe) warns against judging your fellow humans.

Actually, if my memory serves, Jesus warned against judging others lest ye be judged yourselves. So I guess these Christains feel that they are so infallible and sinless themselves and on such hunky-dory terms with God that they don't have to worry about being subject to judgement!

You are right. Bonus points k_g!! YAY!!
by B'liever_Cleaver

The Bible doesn't say (and neither does Jesus) that a believer is never to judge that which the Bible (and Jesus) calls sin. It's just that believers need to speak the truth in love. Yet speaking truth is generally a dangerous thing in itself, because we are always apt to letting our fallible human nature to "color" truth. Best to just love and pray for the "sinner" and leave the judging to God.

I've come to believe that I must earn the right to be heard by those I feel are treading on dangerous spiritual ground. My words should be constrained first by His Spirit, and then always prefaced with compassion, understanding and longsuffering. Proverbs 6 lists six things the Lord hates...seven that detestable.

1. Haughty eyes
2. Lying tongue
3. Hands that shed innocent blood
4. Hearts that device wicked schemes
5. Feet that rush into evil
6. A false witness
7. One who stirs up dissension among his brothers

Until a believer can boast that they are free of any of these things, they should just STFU and work on the beam in their own eye.

I realize I will get some flack from some of the believers here here, but tough titties. I don't answer to them. God is doing a work, and thank you Jesus, He is using me.

1Jo 4:1
¶ Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1Jo 4:2
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
1Jo 4:3
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
1Jo 4:4
¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Oh the irony of this statement. If you are so devote how come you ignore ALL the commandments? Especially the important one about worshiping additional deities?

Good to see you back here B'liever.

Very nicely put.

Hope you are doing better.
