Will men ever hand the White House to a woman?
by PDC

Complete this...

The day that men give women control of the house is when... (if not Hillary, who? when?)

On a personal note, I have control of my house because my husband can't take care of the finances (could be a Libra issue but I don't think so) :-)

Thanks!

...when a woman is the best candidate for her party and the country and wins the election? It's that simple to this guy, but I can't predict who will run in 2012 and beyond so I can't say when. If Hillary had less baggage and wasn't running against a superstar this could have been her year. Still could, God knows what keeps happening when people say she's done for, again.

I hear this complaint from my wife too, but it really isn't an anti-woman thing for me, it's an anti THIS woman thing combined w/the fact that I just REALLY like the other guy.

Funny, if Hillary wins, black (and many other minority) people will be asking if not now, when will be elect a black (latino/asian/etc) man or woman...

You really like the other guy because, as a man, it's always cooler to be associated with another man--even (especially? Dr. J?) a black man--than with a woman--any woman.

Face it: you have a problem with women or else "this woman's" shortcomings wouldn't be an issue for you.

Doesn't Sen. Obama have shortcomings? Apparently not. Or, rather, whatever they are, since he makes you feel really good, they're irrelevant.

This has nothing to do with sexism. Heck, if Obama and Hillary both undergo sex change surgeries, I would still vote for Obama over Hillary without hesitation.

Obama is a good person, Hillary is the scum of the earth, end of story.

Women are the majority in this country so why in the world do men need to hand them the white house? If Hillary wins the nomination I'll vote for her but I prefer Obama. I truly believe he is the best candidate for president and would be way better than Hillary. Does that make me a sexist? No more then you not voting for Obama makes you a racist.

Richmond,

Thanks for telling me what I think and advancing the cause for women. I forgot, it's ok for women to be sexist and presumptuous. Thanks for the reminder.

"if not Hillary, who? when?"

Kathleen Sebelius, 2016. That's my hope anyway, and what I'm pressing for on a number of pro-Obama blogs. Not because women deserve a "turn," mind you, but because I believe she's actually the strongest VP pick for Obama - reinforcing his outsider message and adding much-needed executive experience.

I believe the country is ready for a female president, but it is not ready to relive the Clinton psychodrama all over again. Look at how out of control Bill Clinton has been. Look at all of the questionable actions taken by Clinton surrogates. Look at the way the campaign has been mismanaged. How did someone who raised $175 mil since 2006 run out of money after Iowa? How did she not fire her campaign manager immediately upon learning of this?

Clinton's negatives run between 42-48 depending on the poll. They have not moved at all in the last year. As of today she runs 5 points worse against McCain, and that margin is only growing. I can't name any major legislative accomplishments of hers, indeed when you line up the accomplishments Obama seems to have done more in 3 years than she has in 7. The things she's run have been health care reform in 1993 and this campaign.

Compare to Sebelius. KS is 50%R, 27%D. She won election 53-47, re-elected 57-40. Her favorables are 64%, which means that even those who vote against her like her. She's perpetually listed on top-5 governor lists, and is best known for managerial ability - balancing the budget by cutting wasteful spending at the same time she expanded education. She has taken strong democratic stands on social and environmental issues (rejecting coal plants for KS), with absolutely no effect on her favorability. And her husband is a judge who calls jokingly himself "first dude" and appears to be entirely uninvolved in her administration.

She would make a much, much better first female president that Hillary.

Wow, that's some pretty great stuff on Sebelius...I'll definitely keep an eye on her. And thanks for also proving that there are better female candidates than Hillary...

Obama: The Savior "I have a set of gifts right now that I think could really move the country forward" "It's my job to offer myself... here's what I think I can do." The 60 Minute interview. You decide: <link>

I doubt it! Men can't and won't admit or can't see that women can do a better job! How many women cause wars? How many women want to rape and kill or rule and dominate? It's a man's victious world out there and they will do anything to keep in power

And speaking on the recent debates and TV discussions: I just can't believe how Hillary gets put down and every one on Tim Russert's two shows hold up for Obama. He let's her go first on the tough questions and Dee Dee Meyer says Obama is being a gentlemen. I think Obama let's Hillary go first because he's stupid! He doesn't know the answer - but no one wants to see it! And then he says "Oh, she's right!" Like he actually knows something!

Obama waits for her to answer firstj - so she can provide him (Obama) with an answers!

If not Hitlary, who and when? To answer your question, and this is admittedly just my personal opinion. Conde Rice. Please don't knock me too hard on the spelling of her first name as no disrespect is intended. Based on what I have seen of this lady she has it all going on for her. She is smart, and able to think on her feet. She knows when to use diplomacy and when to go McCain on people and again in opinion she has done one hell of a good job in representing this country abroad. Top this off with the fact that she is a African American female with little to no known baggage, and she would make the perfect candidate for our first woman POTUS. One last time, in my humble opinion, she would make the perfect VP for McCain should he ask and should she accept.

Better re-phrase..When will a woman win the presidency of the U.S. ?

Because it's not a game of give, it's a contest to win. When a woman can successfully navigate the shoals of anti-feminist sentiment (and there is some), and has a great cohesive message that appeals to a wide spectrum of society (not just older women, all women and most men), and a spotlessly run campaign showing they've got the political chops not just the political props (of a famous ex-president as a husband and a lot of name recognition.)

Then a woman CAN win the presidency (heck I'll vote for her), but nobody is going to hand it to her, and neither feminists nor candidates should expect that they will.

Re: Will men ever hand the White House to a woman?

The answer to you question is really quite simple. Men will turn over control of the White House to a woman, the day that Hillary stops lying. Don't hold your breath. On a more serious note: Conde Rice would possibly make a great POTUS should she ever go insane and run for office, that is.
