Firstly, you may ALSO enjoy reading my posting "Bastion of Christianity" by AmericanBoy under the discussion about Anne Applebaum's similar article about sharia law and the pronouncemaents by the Archbishop. The Roman Senator, Cicero, said "sese cuique," to each his own! He too was referring to multiculturalism when Romans began adopting Greek language and culture. Now I ask whether England is part of the Christian World or of the Muslim World, or perhaps England wishes to be a hybrid culture straddling BOTH the Christian and Muslim Worlds...let's consider that! Perhaps France with its Moroccan population and Germany with its Turkish population (and others) would also like to join the INTEGRATED Muslim club; what would happen to the Christian World? By "INTEGRATED" I mean "INTEGRATED INTO (and be part of) THE MUSLIM WORLD"! You may have noted that Arabs make a big stink about what they view as "apartheid," but IF THAT IS THE ONLY WAY FOR OTHER CULTURES CAN SURVIVE, THEN SO BE IT, especially in what are supposed to be Christian countries!

I had to write the above posting while the cleaning person was vacuuming beside me, so I had to submit the posting before proof reading it! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A GENIUS to figure out that either by altering the word "CAN" to "TO" or changing the word "FOR" to "THAT" that not only does the sentence make sense but is obvious to all but CERTAIN PEOPLE; however, THESE ARE THE KIND OF PEOPLE WE ARE FORCED TO DEAL WITH! First I doubt if you were a boy second I'm sure you ignore a lot about Europe and maybe you know nothing more than what you have seen in documentaries, especially about Paris. As a boy -if boy you are- you should update your knowledge and vary your sources of information.

Both of you and your mother Anne Applebaum should know that France has its own African immigrants who participated in its liberation as well as in its development. People from the Maghreb (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania) who have lived and/or were born there in France met up with problems similar to those encountered the Afro-Americans. They were and still are considered 2nd class citizens. They were and still suffer discrimination and segregation. It is not Sharia law question; it's the way you look at this sample of Humans.

AmericanBoy--Britain is a largely secular society. Most people there don't give a toss about the Archbishop of Canterbury. So it's completely pointless to be wringing your hands about whether Britain is part of the 'Christian World' or 'Muslim World'...whatever that means.

I disagree with you there. I doubt that they actively suffer from segregationist policies. They segregate themselves because they don't want to mix with the non-Islamic people. I doubt all European Muslims are like that, but the ones that do live in Muslim areas do so because they CHOOSE to do so. Theres not much you can do about that.

Segregationist policies, it is true, are quite out of vogue in most Western countries. What we're looking at here, though, is de facto land segregation based on the types of jobs that Afro Americans and other minorities in France (and most other European countries) get. It's actually quite similar to America, which has no written segregationist policies but still suffers from heavy segregation. I wouldn't argue that those that live in Muslim areas do so because of CHOICE, but merely because only that area has housing affordable enough for their second-tier treatment.

Aren't there ENOUGH OIL REVENUES for those poor disadvantaged folks to remain in their own countries? Secondly, when they do come to Western countries they expect Westerners to ADAPT TO THEIR CULTURE rather than adapting to their new culture! Beggars can be choosers in Western countries because people like the Archbishop supplicate themselves--not having the spine to stand up for what they are supposed to--which is an INDEPENDENT Church! Would a really "Independent Church" adopt Sharia Law??? Is this why King Henry VIII SEPARATED His Church from Rome? Or, is Archbishop of Canterbury loyal to the "Church of Mecca"?

I was thinking along the codified kind. Sort of like in Israel.

Although you have a point with job discrimination, people can't stop you from living next door just for being Arab (save for pricing them out). The Arabs are **partly** to blame for being segregated in France and England. They make an effort to form communities to being around "their own kind." Thankfully, such mentality isn't AS pervasive in the US as it is in the EU.
