If a person attends a church whose allegiance is to Africa and does not allow members other than black people, could that person not be considered a racist?

If Obama should be elected President, will he be sworn in on the Bible or the "other Holy book?"

Will he pledge allegiance to America or Africa?

Someone needs to ask these questions soon --- and very soon.

I like the man personally. His color is not an issue but his allegiance is very much a problem.

These are all VERY good questions. What I would like to know is, how people can vote for someone that doesn't even honor our Nation's flag?

I'll vote republican before Obama has my vote... And I am terrified to have another member of GOP in office, if that tells you anything.

Obama is a Christian and does not oppose reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and does so w/hand over heart, etc. He is a Citizen and his loyalty is in the right place. Please do not pay attention to the posts stating the contrary. The cynicism, slander and unsubstantiated nonsense in addition to the constant pandering of fears and insecurity are absurd.

As per his church--no one church including church leaders is perfect because we aren't perfect. Sometimes we may remain in a specific church for a variety of reasons. I had a personal challenge with my pastor, but appreciated the teaching and overall spirit of the place.

Are we listening with our hearts and making intelligent informed decisions or listening to the negative prognosticators (who may not vote or do for shallow and incredulous reasons) or perhaps are from any of the opposing parties? Rushing to the other Camp out of fear is just what they want. Think about it, there are many ways to indirectly sabotage and the quickest is to print lies stirring/manipulating our concerns; then catering to theirs (your vote). And let’s not exclude the media which constantly rapes us emotionally and quickly sensationalizing the slightest untruth!

Take some time to research and you'll discover differently. Again, Mr. Obama is Christian and his allegiance is in the right place--with America and that's coming from (me) a Registered Republican with a variety of view points and shared interests...i.e. the dismantling or dramatically regulating the IRS.... :)

Here are some stories about Senator Obama not saluting the American flag. There is one with a video, from ABC news. Disagree if you like, but the proof is in the pudding.

Being a military spouse, and living in Germany, the American flag is a symbol of HOME to me. It is something that my husband and I both believe in. So sorry but this candidate won't be getting a vote from myself or my husband.

I have several students who don't raise their hands when they answer a question in class. They speak out of turn, despite having been told that it is the rule to raise their hands: the rule of the classroom and the rule of the (public) school, an institution of the U.S. government. Clearly, these students are no better than terrorists. They are un-American, unpatriotic, and they and their families should be deported.

Come on, crystalcole! If you really want to split hairs about protocol, ALL of the people on that platform were violating the rules of saluting the flag during the national anthem, which specifically states that they must be "facing the flag." Clearly, ALL of these Senators and other prominent "Americans" are filthy terrorists (as they have their backs to it). Send them all to Gitmo!

Regarding Obama's church: it's the United Church of Christ. Speaking as someone who went to a UCC-affiliated college, I can confidently state that the UCC is a 100% American Christian institution. Its leadership does not live in Africa, it is not associated with Africa, and the majority of its members are not African, nor even African-American. Oh, and their "holy book" is the Bible, not the "other holy book," bduvall (what does that even mean, by the way? The Torah? The Buddhist Tripitaka? Or one of the other dozens of "holy books" of various world religions?) Other UCC members have included presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams, Vermont Governor Howard Dean, and Florida Senator Bob Graham. Clearly, all of these people hate America!

After having seen how some people who DO wear flag pins and call themselves devout Christians have ruined this country by trying to destroy its credibility, circumvent its Constitution (which, not the flag, IS the greatest symbol of the country and the most important item to which we declare our alleigance), and violate simple Christian tenets (like, "thou shalt not kill"), I'm happy to vote for an upstanding, progressive leader who supports Christian values, our Constitution, AND the country.

Oh, and your links, crystalcole, all say the same thing: it was the National Anthem, not the Pledge of Allegiance, and it's right-wing bloggers who are trying to make it an issue. Thanks for helping us elect President Huckabee.

Wanted to make 2 quick corrections: in the video, Sen. Edwards (not shown in many of the still photos as he's at the other end of the platform) is, in fact, facing the flag. Sen. Biden (also at the other end of the platform) is sort of profile to it...we should not deport either of these two, but be sure to waterboard them and make sure they have no Communist... excuse me... terrorist sympathies.

Also, I misspelled "allegiance" in the second-to-last paragraph. My apologies. Clearly I must go waterboard myself to make sure I have no blub blub blaargle blurb...

I have no love for Obama. I despise him because he doesn't respect democratic processes enough for my tastes.

But showing respect (or lack thereof) for the flag is a poor basis for deciding who to vote for, and I urge you to reconsider. Whether someone puts their hand over their heart during the national anthem has no bearing on their performance as President.

Voting against someone due to disrespect for the flag, real or perceived, is misguided coming from anyone. It's particularly offensive coming from a servicemember. The oath I swore, and the one your husband swore if he has re-uppped at any time since 1962 (or 1959 if he's an officer), was to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. Not the flag. Not a song. The Constitution. A candidate's respect or disrespect for the Constitution is a relevant issue, and one where your husband's and your sacrifices may entitle you to extra respect for your opinions. Disrespecting the flag is not.
