The Rift valley question arrises mainly because of the land problem. After Independence, president Kenyatta grabbed most of the land for himself and his family( this is the point which J Kenyatta disagreed with Jaramogi Odinga, who felt it was not right), and instead of settling the Kikuyu's in central province, he settled them in 'other people's land in the Rift Valley. Upto date, the biggest land owners are The Kenyatta family, Moi family and Kibaki family. These three men, who were all part of govt since indepence, failed to correct the land problems that have now become explosive, instead dividing big chunks between themselves and their cronies.

In the public service, Kikuyus are seen generally as corrupt and some institutions have been even renamed in popular parlance, such as the Kenya Revenue Authority - which every one calls Kikuyu revenue authority- after most of the other communities were sacked and replaced with Kikuyus. Kenyans claim business there (behind the scene) is conducted in Kikuyu language, thereby locking out other tribes and intimidating them.

Even where i work, although the organisation is owned by a foreign investor and has shares listed on the stock exchange, all the bosses are Kikuyu and non Kikuyu's rarely get promoted and earn less salaries.

Yes Kenyatta was a land grabber, as was Moi and many prominent Kenyans past and present (incliuding the Odinga's - remember the molasses plant in Kisumu?). However most of Kenyas land is owned by small-holders most of whom bought their land legally and fairly.

It is a fact that a significant proportion of Kenya's middle-class are Kikuyu. There is a historical basis to this - as the writer pointed out, because the center of colonial activity was in the so called "White Highlands" - traditional "Gikuyu Land" the Agikuyu were forced into the money economy a generation or two before other ethnic communities. The result is that they are disproportionately represented in professional and middle classes.

I don't think you are being honest when you claim that Kikuyus earn more than members of other ethnic groups on the basis of their ethnicity.

Dear writer. After reading this article i have to agree with Akinyi. It's obvious you only talked to a Kikuyu and wrote this article from a Kikuyu point of view. Your writing just doesnt make sense in this age. To you it seems Kikuyus are running the country and the rest of folks are just chillin. Which Kenya are you talking about?. This is pathetic journalism. The truth is the rest of Kenyans are very much actively involved in business. Also Kikuyus being the biggest in numbers are also the poorest in numbers. All 8 million Kikuyus are not rich businessmen. My estimate is atleast 4 -6 million patheticly poor Kikuyus. Even the Presidents Othaya constituency is such a pathetic place poverty there is unbelievable. I was just laughing when i read your article.

You sound like one of Kibakis pathetic henchmen writing a cheap piece of propaganda. The Kikuyu folks you interviewed didn't mention to yo that they stole the elections and want the other kenyans to be cool with that. Infact they stole it in such a pathetic way even children know Kibaki stole. What kind of message is that? If the president himself is a thief how do you expect us to obey the law or even listen to him?

Also with all the rigging none of them even elite Kikuyus have come out in condemnation of the pathetic stealing of votes that Kibaki did with the exception of Maina Kiai and John Githongo. Its really pathetic just show you how tribalistic and backward they are in this age. When the rest of kenyans want to progress into a developed society Kikuyus are taking us backwards.

That kikuyus fought for independence while other kenyans wre chillin. Have you read about Kenyan history? Other tribes actively opposed the British. This crappy story that Kikuyus only opposed white folks you an tell that to chickens because we ain't buying that shit in this age. Also do your research Kikuyus are selfish and rarely welcome other Kenyans to do business in their traditional areas. They will rob and kill just to maintain kikuyu dominance in their area. I would advice you next time to visit Kenya and talk to all tribes before writing such a piece of nonosense article also don't interview Kikuyus only because for example look at Kenyans clean name now, It's now been ruined by Kikuyu thieves and conmen together with Kibaki. Kenya has 38 Million people Kikuyus are only 8 millions you expect 30 million Kenyans to take and accept this piece of nonesense about Kikuyus ? Kenya doesn't belong to Kikuyus only. Kibaki by the way hasn't been recognised by most countries he's been only recognized by dictatorial regimes like Uganda and Somalia. All the election monitoring agencies refused to certify the elections. Even the Electoral Comission Chairmanr said on TV that he doesn't know who won. Kibaki cant even visit Kisumu or Eldoret, Mombasa, Kajiado and Kitale because Kenyans dont want him he know he didn't win the elections.

Majority of Kikuyus with their current attitude are an embarassment to democracy and an embarassment to Kenya, because if that is the kind of progress that you are trying to impress on readers then i dont know. The rest of modern Kenyans will not allow these stone age Kikuyus to take as backwards they can keep on living in their ethnic chauvinist society while the rest of Kenyans progress into a first world society and democracy.

So research first before faking yourself as an expert in Kenyan history and affairs.Lastly the President of Kenya is Raila Odinga and not Kibaki Kenyans chose Odinga not Kibaki.

If your population has grown six- or seven-fold in just 35 years, you have a people problem.

This is in response to the disgusted kenyans article.After reading your article, you truly are disgusted and the most of all by the self claimed kenyan jews as earlier stated.However your resentments are with alot of bitterness that requires no professor to interpret that there is something with in the kikuyus DNA that you appreciate,but possibly you luck.My dear disgusted kenyan, your bitterness leaves much not to be disired coz and am trying to imagine what it is you lost after kibaki and Raila agreeing on the way forward,that left you in such denial that you still claim Raila is the kenyan president.What the writer has written about kikuyu is 100% true,that Kikuyus are the backbone of the kenyan economy, they are enterprising, and success is in their DNA.However, their go-getter atitude has left some scars here and there coz they believe they would rather dying chasing destiny than sitting waiting for manna.The Luos on the other hand have reason to complain and hate the kikuyus who stole the throne in their very own eyes.The reason behind it? They are used to sitting and mother nature provides for them.The only hussle is to make fishing net in the confort of their beds as the fish naturally mature in the LAKE.
