Juno -- a movie that might make you think

It is my opinion that Juno is getting backlash because it is unlike other films. People aren't murdered or overly deceived. The movie is about a simple problem for a simple family. It makes a plain, unnoticed girl very noticable. And she does a heroic thing without making apologies. In a world where parents routinely cover over their children's mistakes with money, Juno shows an alternative--responsibility. The movie is perfect from the cast and setting right down to the fabulous mushroom salt and pepper shakers. Perhaps Hollywood should learn that plenty of people like movies about regular people living their lives in extraordinarily regular ways--without mass murder and creepy soundtracks.

So what you're saying is that the perfect movie would be about a mom... a real mom... making pb and j sandwiches.... but wait... she's out of peanut butter. The kids need lunch now, not later. Did you hear me? SHE'S OUT OF PEANUT BUTTER!!!!! So complex in it's simplicity... so real... so...not worth an oscar.

I saw the movie, but find myself ambivalent over whether I liked it or not. Although most teens and preteens seem to love it, it doesn't really depict the reality of the situation. You would be way more upset at being pregnant than she is, and so would your parents! It almost makes the whole thing seem like a joke...just answer an ad in the newspaper, and thats it. Finally at the end, when Juno is crying in the hospital room, you get a sense that reality is finally setting in, but then it shows the kids a short while later sitting and playing a guitar and laughing, as if it never happened...and still together? Come on.
