Financial genius lost
by will7370
It's really a shame we lost a chance to have Mitt Romney for president. The man is a financial genius. He knows money, both inside and out. You don't become a multi-millionaire by not understanding how money works. This country's biggest problem right now is the economy. I was eagerly looking forward to seeing Mitt turn this nation's economy around like he turned around the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. Well, the shortsidedness and ignorance of this country will get what they deserve. Does anyone REALLY think John McCain will reduce (or even eliminate!) the federal deficit? Does anyone REALLY think John McCain can compete with Hillary or Obama in November? Imagine a man with a temper like McCain's holding the nuclear launch codes for this country! The thought scares me to death. Most Republicans will hold their nose as they vote for McCain. The loss of Mitt Romney is truly a tragedy for this nation's economy. Let's hope he chooses to run again in the future.

Mitt the financial genius was the manager of the big dig 12 billion over budget. The Genius left Massachusetts with a 1 billion dollar deficit. Only reason the Olympics turned out ok was federal government bailed them out with 1.3 billion dollars.

"Mitt the financial genius was the manager of the big dig 12 billion over budget" And here I had thought he was Governor.

The "big dig" started construction in 1994. Romney became governor in 2002. The last of the construction was finished in 2006.

I'm no Romney fan, but to be fair, he wouldn't have had much to do with the contracts handed out before he was Governor. He did give back several thousand bucks in contributions from one of the construction companies after they were charged with using faulty materials.

Financial genius?!?!?!?!?

Most of Mitt's millions were made by buying companies, firing workers, and then selling off the assets. If you want another person that will eviscerate the middle class and ship jobs to China and India, that's your perogative. But to pretend that he's some sort of financial genius is comical.

And we don't need an economist in the White House as President. Economics is just next to Voodoo as far as the accuracy of its predictions. And since Economics doesn't consider social costs and things that don't directly affect the bottom line, it's a horrible way to base decisions.

"You don't become a multi-millionaire by not understaning how money works"

George W. Bush is a millionaire....he did the old fasioned way, he stole it.

Not all rich people understand how to run an economy.

And Mitt did it by being born the son of a CEO.

That takes real financial genius.

You can also get rich by having rich friends or a dad with rich friends or with insider trading as our current "CEO president" has shown.

Running the country is nothing like running a for profit corporation where you cut jobs and have things made in China for maximum profit.

We need national health care and investment in sustainable energy. We need to maintain our roads and bridges and fund FEMA. We need to fund the VA. We need to make sure social security is sound.

None of these things will make a profit, nor should they. We are the richest nation in the world and yet people go without health care, our infrastructure is crumbling and we are relying on foreign oil and contirbuting to greenhouse gases all while fighting an unneeded war and cutting taxes.

We need a man (or woman) who will look out for the best insterests of all Americans, not just the wealthiest 5%.

Wow, business sure is simple. You must have run a bunch of successful companies, huh?

Progressive bulldog: The Romney family has always been helpful in general to the United States.

Mitt's father was an auto parts supplier for WWII, and worked to supply the military with extra auto parts.

President Nixon appointed his father to help develp HUD nationwide. Do you know what HUD is? It's the development of housing that used to be known as the projects...an area where poor people could find food and shelter.

MItt didn't have to go and help the Olympics out, which was only 5 MONTHS after 9/11, and could have been a security nightmare. He didn't take a salary for this, nor did he take one as Massachusetts Governor. Time and time again he has helped people out, and not taken money. They way we were brought up is you don't trumpet all your good doings for others because it is tacky.

We, the taxpayers, are funding all of these campaigns in part, except for his! These candidates are allowed a certain amount of money by law that they can ask for. My mother has always worked elections, and is employed by a township.

Clinton and Romney have used their own money. All you gusy do is believe commercials from two of the three front runners left that have ethics violations. One for the Keating 5 scandal that almost brought the savings and loans to their knees, and the other one who hid a plane purchase for him and his wife.

I voted for Romney in Michigan's primary. His father was a popular and honest governor, who also admitted he changed his mind about things. Of course, you have never changed your mind about anything right?

As for Obama and Rezko, if Obama is the nominee, the Republicans WILL put all those shady dealings out there. Romeny has no ethics violations of any sort. He has changed his mind, yet did not miss 136 votes with present. That means you sent an aide.

Mitt Romney is an example, along with his father, that we could have used to get America back on track. Yes, we had a MORMON for Governor here, one of our most popular ever in this state. The capitol building in Lansing is named for George Romney.

We REALLY could have gotten things turned around America.

The other three major candidates remaining I hold accountable for this mess. Even Obama had three years to do the yes we can, and have we seen it?

What his dad did is pretty irrelevant.

He got a deferment from the draft as a minister of religion and if not for that would have been in Vietnam just in time for Khe San or Tet.

He went to work at a consulting company in 1975 and then worked at Bain & company as a VP from '78 to '84. He started a spinoff in 84 and invested money in other companies.

Whether or not the guy laid people off or created jobs is hard to say. Leveraged buyouts typically do cost jobs. To me, those people are making money by pushing money around. They don't have shit to do with making companies stronger and are primarily interested in stripping assets and playing funny games with debt. I don't know that Romney did anything like that, but in my experience, companies are weaker after one of those happens.

It is so easy to criticize. I admire anyone who is willing to try and better America. It is our job to deciper what we want in America. Romney had the brains, guts and ambitions to try and I for one am sad to see him leave the campaign behind. His willingness to learn and analyze things is something this county could really use.

I for one do not want more government and I am willing to pay for what I need and use. I will never understand why so many people believe they are entitled to everything.

Good for you. I'm glad things are going well for you. I am one of those lucky enough to be in the top 5% of income earners, but with a wife that has a persistant and eventually fatal disease, I do want government help. I have had insurance for all of the 30 or so years that I've been out of the military and in changing jobs (as mine was given to someone from India) I was told that my wife's illness was not covered. I want the government to fix that. Companies that rely on exporting products to other countries or compete against imported goods from countries that provide free health care or subsidized health care.....I want the government to fix that.

We have a government that competes with the private sector for money. The last 7 years have seen an amazing increase in the national debt. I want the next president to fix that.

Entitiled to everything? How about good government? That is why I'm not voting republican.

How was Romney supposed to turn things around when he basically supported the failed policies of the current administration?

I think the country stopped being entitled to good government after re-electing the Numbnut administration in 2004.
