Trickle out economics
by mlr
I can see how tax rebates to increase consumer spending might stimulate the Chinese economy or the Japanese economy, but I don't see how it improves the American economy.

This will make the Walton heirs billions of dollars and a few Chinese slave masters very happy.

I am putting mine in a CD so when I have to pay it back next year in 09 for my 08 taxes at least I will get enough interest to buy a cup of coffee and an egg sandwich. The waiter gets a two buck tip and I've had a breakfast, and thats all this whole thing is truly worth.

Well oestensibly

Well oestensibly the trade off is as follows:

  • No Stimulus==>No Spending at Walmart ==> Layoffs at Walmart ==> Contraction of Economy
  • Stimulus ==> spending at Walmart ==>
    • Crappy job at Walmart is kept==>economy keeps sputtering along
    • PRC debt is increased but paid off in inflationary $$

So goes the theory.
