Some reasons I can't respect Romney
by liberal_guy66

I simply cannot tolerate Romney any longer, and I'm glad he's gone. I say this even though I voted for him for MA governor in 2002 and dear old Mother-In-Law, a con to the end, has a photo of her next to him, although she didn't know who he was at the time. Also, Mormonism is not the reason, as nutty as it all seems to me.

  • He says, "And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror." What a bunch of BS. I simply cannot respect such a distored statementl, even though he's making it to a hard-right crowd.
  • He spent his years as governor campaigning for the next job,and he said insulting things about Massachusetts, my state and his state, while trying to butter up repubs in other states, such as SC. Now, think of the ironies. MA voted for him for governor and in the Tuesday primary, but SC rejected him. Just deserts.
  • His speech about religion does not hold up under the harsh light of reason. Religion is not necessary and sufficient for freedoom, for example. History and current reality just do not support such a statement, as good as it may sound. He has a lot of explaining to do about that.
  • He said we should double Guantanomo. Why? It's at about half capacity now anyhow. Who does he want to put there (me, perhaps?)? How long does he want to hold them there? What does he expect to achieve? Why just double it; why not triple it? Or, perhaps, is he just trash talking?
  • He's a smart guy; why does he try to hide it? Why didn't he tell us how he would apply his formidable skills to fixing our problems creatively and even think outside the box a little? I could respect that.

I could go on, but I just can't respect the guy. Go enjoy your many millions, Mitt; just stay out of the public sphere and out of my face. Don't even think of running for the Senate again (unless it's in Utah); you'll be killed.

The old slogan....good riddance to bad rubbish seems to apply to Romney.
Absolutely

The man has wasted his talents. He deserves neither respect nor pity.

Mitt's biggest problem was being taken seriously. I supported him, only because he was the best of a pretty sorry crowd. But his conversion to red-meat conservatism was hard to accept by most everyone I know, and came across as phony.

Howdy

Romney failed for three reasons.

Most important, and rather sadly, no enthusiasm attaches to a candidate who looks like he came out of central casting for a hollywierd production for a president character in a show.

He is a wealthy northeastern liberal in traditionalist camoflage.

Most folks think a president in secret sacred undergarments is just too wierd.

It may be superficial and only partially correct, but those are the three strike that cost him his presidential at-bat.

Huh?

Like it or not we are at war and some campaigns have set a timetable for surrendering to terror. So where's the distored statement?

Flash!.....every politician spends his term campaigning for his next job (which for some includes getting the one he has again). Where's the news in that? And whatever it is he said insulting about Massachusetts is of little consequence in red places like South Carolina as long as Ted Kennedy lives and breathes and Mary Jo Kopechne doesn't.

His speech about religion would never have been delivered if it were not for media folk demanding it. Folks like you I suspect. It was you guys that made that speech neccessary. And having forced that issue you now preach self-evident platitudes about unnecessary religion and freedom's suffiencies? I gotta say you seem very comfortable sloshing around in your own bullshit.

Might I also add something here about current reality? Have you noticed that between praying five times a day to Mecca some folks find time for neck prunings and outfitting their offspring with bombs in the name of religion? It would be wonderful if you'd take it on yourself to go tell them that's so unnecessary.

Actually I'd say your real problem is either with your mother-in-law and the photos on her mantle or your think tank is on empty.
