Straight-talk Express
by RM77

So much has been written about McCain and his straight-talk. However, a closer examination shows that much of his straight-talk is selective that borders on pandering. He talks about pork spending and never mentions a single word about national debt or budget deficits. He says he will veto pork spending, but does not realize that 75% of the budget is non-vetoeable (mandatory spending, Defense, Homeland Security, etc.) Last seven years it was the Republicans who had control of the WH and the Congress and they were responsible for the Big Government and the economic mess. He makes subtle reference to this point and quickly changes subject. Regarding Global Warming, he wants to have it both ways, says we may be right or we may be wrong. He has the same dual position on evolution vs Creationism. He does not separate science from religion/philosophy. He does not tell you about the truth of the current situation in Iraq. Military experts say that there is no military solution. Yet he clings on to the Surge strategy, which has nothing to do with the pacification of the tribal chiefs. He ignores the fundamental fact that 90% of the terrorism and violence was caused by Sunni & Shia insurgents, which has been stopped by paying money and weapons to the tribal chiefs, which by the way took place long before the surge. No straight-talk on this.

The more one listens to his stump speech, friends, one becomes more skeptical.
