Religion
by LVMorningdove

It's a shame that people pick front runners by the religion they belong too. Religion has nothing to do about being a president and I believe it's the news media that plaque this world with discrimination. In the pass history we The United States have had many presidents’ that belong to other denominations and they weren't being judge for that. People are picking Obama who doesn't even put's his hand over his chest when the pledge is being said. Do we really want someone like that for our president? I know I won't be voting for him. I won't vote for the OLD white headed McCain. If anything was to happen to him we would have a Vice President that would have to run our country. Mr. Romney had no chance for the bid for presidency with narrow minded people who live here in the United State of America that pick candidates by their religion. I do not belong in the Mormon Faith, but I do have close friends who are and I believe they do have good values and that narrow minded people don't understand the religion. Just like the other faiths they too believe in Jesus Christ and God. I hope Mitt will continue in politics and run again for President.

I agree with you. Mitt Romneys religion became a factor at the very start of his campaign. WHO CARES. I don't recall religion being a factor for any other candidate. Neither John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Hillary Clinton nor Barrock Obama had to give a special speach discussing their religious beliefs. What do they believe anyway? Why can't we just look at the person for who they are? Are they jealous because he has money? Hard earned money! His own money. Isn't that the American dream at work. How high School. Thank you LVMorningdove for your perfect insight to this whole situation.

You may want to check your facts, Morningdove. Senator Obama has always put his hand over his heart during the pledge of allegiance. The libelous e-mail asserting the contrary contained a picture showing him with his arms down standing next to Bill Richardson (who has his hand over his heart), and was taken not during the Pledge, but during the singing of the National Anthem at a steak fry. The following is a response to this charge from the "Think On These Things" website:

Someone Lied To You

Let’s get to the larger issue though.

Who thought you were so gullible that they would send you false, misleading information about something that could affect you and your children’s future–who our next President should be?

Somebody thought so poorly of you, your intelligence, and your well-being under the next Presidential administration that they flat out lied to you. Somebody tried to play you for a fool.

Barack Obama has respect for your intelligence. He has said:

“I have absolute confidence in the American people’s capacity to absorb the truth as long as we are forceful in that presentation.”

It’s too bad that we can’t say that whoever sent you that email has the same respect for your intellectual capacities.

About the American Flag Pin/Lapel Accusations

Regarding the related claim floating around about Obama and an American flag pin. Here is what Obama actually said:

“Somebody noticed I wasn’t wearing a flag lapel pin and I told folks, well you know what? I haven’t probably worn that pin in a very long time. I wore it right after 9/11. But after a while, you start noticing people wearing a lapel pin, but not acting very patriotic. Not voting to provide veterans with resources that they need. Not voting to make sure that disability payments were coming out on time.

“My attitude is that I’m less concerned about what you’re wearing on your lapel than what’s in your heart. And you show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those who served. You show your patriotism by being true to our values and our ideals and that’s what we have to lead with is our values and our ideals.”

Please note that our very own President also doesn’t always wear a flag pin, neither do most of the other Presidential candidates–including Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Mitt Romney and veteran John McCain.

Like I said narrow minded people!

I don't understand how it's more "narrow minded" to pick a candidate because of religion than to pick one because of age or race or gender or whether they had their hand up in a single photo. Maybe you are employing a rhetorical device that I'm not picking up on to say that all of these things are equally bad--if so, I agree--but it's not very clear to me who these "narrow-minded people" are in your last reply.

LVMorningdove makes an important point about religion, unfortunately the message is lost in the rest of this ignorant and narrow minded diatribe.
