Chelsea Clinton's email

I received a note from NOW president, Kim Gandy, which contained the essence of what is rumored to be Chelsea Clinton's email! I found it threatening, coercive and offensive and wrote back to Ms. Gandy telling her so.

I am a 60's feminist and have worked long and hard for women's rights. And, like Oprah Winfrey, I consider myself a FREE woman. That is why I choose to support the best candidate for the Presidency, Barack Obama. It has nothing to do with any bad feelings or thoughts I have about Hillary. I think she is a smart woman and an excellent senator. I would hope that she will someday be majority leader in the Senate. However, to me, her stand on the Iraq War has been wrong, and her vote for the Kyl/Lieberman Amendment just sealed the deal! This has nothing to do with her being a woman--it is about her judgement and ideology. I do not want to have a Margaret Thatcher as President of my country. I think Barack Obama is much more progressive and is completely respectful of women's rights. And, by the way, Michelle Obama is wonderful!!!

I completely agree Hilary would make a terrific Senate Majority Leader. It upsets me that noticing that her talents may be better for an equally important although less flashy job is interpreted as a betrayal of feminism. Hilary would make an excellent Prime Minister....but this country isn't a parliamentary democracy. Presidents are not supposed to make legislation, they are supposed to enforce it. Therefore rather than being technicians they need to be a symbol that everyone rallys around to get stuff done. This is not downgrading the more "qualified candidate" this is saying that her superior qualifications are perhaps better in the senate rather than competing against McCain. Obama like Bill will help rally everyone on election day better than Hilary. That is what it is about. Winning. I loved Robin Morgan's essay, I truly believe those hilary dolls are unbelievably offensive. The fact that they are out there and accepted means she shouldn't be the candidate. It is possible to agree with Robin Morgan and support Barack Obama too.. The Clintons will continue to be an important force in the world without Hilary being the democratic candidate for president.

Thebigkate- Thank you for calling Gandy on her poorly played gambit. Personally, I am furious that this is how NOW has come to see "feminism."

I am missing something here, or several things. I also am a longtime feminist and get email from NOW, which I hardly ever read because most of it is stupid.

If you want to see how Obama and Hillary voted basically the same, look at votesmart.org--if Obama did not vote for it, it's because he did not vote, an unfortunate habit of his. That way he can honestly say he took both stands depending on when it is convenient. I don't find that courageous in the least. As to the matters they have both actually voted on, their record is practically identical. Finally, I don't get what NOW's transmission has to do with anything relevant to the campaign directed by Hillary Clinton.

Like all adult children, Chelsea is free to do whatever stupid thing she likes. Assuming for the sake of argument that she actually sent such an email, which perhaps a person who is 60 would not understand. My youngest is 17 and believe me, she sends nasty or stupid messages that I do not approve of with some frequency.

Do you think that as a feminist, maybe we should be changing the political arena so that women can hold the highest and not be excluded because they are polarizing. A great deal of why they are polarizing is they are women.

I walked into the supermarket today. I live in a nice middle class neighborhood and was there with my 7 yo daugher. There was a guy wearing a T-Shirt that said " Trust No B*****"

Nice huh?
