If only this were the half of it...
by crystalacole

My husband is active duty army. He has been for 13 years now, he has also been a Motor Sgt, shop foreman and platoon sgt. I sat here reading this article, thinking... If this were only so true.

My husband has commanders that are so out of touch with what is going on in their unit, they probably couldn't name half of the men and women that work for them. Some commanders are so worried about their own career, they forget about the soldiers looking up to them for leadership and support.

The Army is falling short on training. My husband has a Motor Sgt, that frankly, doesn't even know what his job is. And that guy got promoted, my husband didn't. My husband has had mechanics that have worked for him, that didn't even know what a tire iron is. My point being, if you are trained for a job, you'll know it. Doctor's don't just become doctors over night.

The Army needs NCO's and Officer's that actually care whether or not the soldier under him and above him knows their job. Leadership has slid downhill. There is none. I see soldiers wearing their ACU pants down past their ass, with gold grills for their teeth. These are also the same soldiers that can never be found at any given point of the day. Usually because they're off doing something they shouldn't be.

I say this article does make a few good points. But if only this article were the half of it. There is more wrong with the Army then some soldiers that can't read.

I wore the BDUs, but you have a good insight on things. I entered the Army in 97' and things were already like this. Recent events have only made it worse. As far as officers caring only about their own careers, I half agree with you. Some ( I was an officer later on) are forbidden from doing the right things from up above. Rocking the boat I guess you could call it, being politically correct and all that crap, this accounts for the high rate of officers leaving all the branches.
