Mormons or other superstitions
by tcastillo

Well,....I guess my only comment is,..who cares?

How the political innerworks of any of these so called Religions (businesses) is really not something I would be interested on,..their money demands to their members are very interesting,..mormons, catholics or whatever they call themselves,..do we need a President with one of these superstitions in his head,...I dont think so,..I rather have an intelligent president.

Christ is the only One who is the head of the true church.

Really one of the most ignorant posts of the day. Sorry to break it to you.

The Mormons do not still practice polygamy and any person who does and says they are members of the church are lying. Polygamy was stopped in the late 1800s when it was made illegal by the US.
Re: Mormons or other superstitions

They may not practice it today, but their founders and past members did. And this is in direct conflict with what the Bible teaches on marriage. But, then again, so is alot of what Mormonism teaches.

Wrong. I lived about 20 miles from Hilldale, Utah / Colorado City Arizona. It's chock full of polygamists, they live the lifestyle openly.

The SLC mormons claim this group is an off-shoot of the real mormon church but the polygamist group says they are the decendents from the real church. So who's lying? And there are other groups of polygamists that claim their leader is a blood decendent of Joseph Smith. Now who's lying?

Fernley--
I think you may have been misinformed. Those who live polygamist lifestyles are excommunicated from the church. They are not members of the LDS church.

I think where the confusion lies is in the origins of those polygamist communities. Those who claim they are descendants of Joseph Smith may very well be, because many of his relations left the LDS church in the 1840's, when Brigham Young became prophet. They wanted one of Joseph's sons to be. Unfortunately, they left the LDS church and formed the "Reorganized" LDS church--it is not affiliated with the LDS church, and I believe it goes by a different name nowadays, but I'm not sure what that name is.

I'm not sure why any person would lie about their own beliefs. That seems rather silly, don't you think? If they were lying, they obviously don't agree with that belief, so why wouldn't they join a different church? Just something to think about.

I hope that's cleared up a little confusion.

Who cares? Let people worship how they see fit. I know a few mormons and they are nice people and good citizens who love their country and follow the laws.

Do I care what some people did back in the 1800's? From what I have studied it was only a few of the population that practiced polygamy.

Most people will have some black sheep in their ancestry somewhere? Slavery? Draft dodgers? Criminals?

THANK YOU!! I am so glad that there is someone out here who truly will let others practice what they believe, and not hound them about it. I could never imagine bashing on Jews or catholics or any others religion. What a mean thing to do, and what a waste of your time.

If you think that the Bible teaches marriage as it exists today in the United States, then you need to do a better job of reading your Bible.

The claim that the Bible teaches this "one man, one woman" style of marriage is one of the most ignorant things that I have ever heard coming from a politician's mouth. If you want to amend the constitution to define marriage in this way -- fine. Just don't try to justify that with the Bible.

What Bible do read?
Re: Mormons or other superstitions
by Dasher

Nightswimmer, I encourage you to read Gen.2:24; Matt.19:4-9; Rom. 7:1-3 among others and then tell me again that the Bible does not teach us that marriage is between one man and one woman and that is how God intended it from the very beginning of creation. There may be many people in the U.S. and in many other places that do not follow what the Bible says about marriage, but that does not mean the Bible is ignorant on the subject nor silent on it. It is very clear and precise on marriage! Polygamy was practiced in biblical times by those in both the New and Old Testaments BUT IT CERTAINLY WAS NOT CONDONED BY GOD! "Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate" (Matt. 19:6b NKJV) So if Christ taught that marriage is for ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN and that it was for LIFE, (ONLY exception was if either spouse was unfaithful) then who are you to say that this is ignorant teaching? Are you saying the Christ's or His Father's teaching on this subject is ignorant? Let me Know.

my question for you Dasher:
(I apologize in advance if this seems unkind. It may reflect some of the frustration I feel at having the beliefs of my church attacked.)
Do you believe that Abraham was a prophet of God? Do you believe that He lived God's law? That He was obedient?
Now remember, This was the man who would even offer up his son at the request of God to show his obedience. This was a man that God respected to the extent that his descendents were considered the chosen people of the Lord, through which His priesthood power, truth, and even the Messiah would come. Guess what? He had two wives! Sara, and Sara's handmade, (I forget her name) That's part of why we have so much conflict in the middle east. the sons of both wives claim Abrahams inheritance.
So lets look at Israel. Jacob. This was the man who God set as head of the house of Isreal, giving His chosen people the name of this man. I should think he was pretty important and righteous guy who was obedient to the Lord to recieve that honor, wouldn't you? atleast it seems that God was pleased with him, maybe I just don't understand the bible. Guess how many wives he had. four! first Leah and Rachel, and then their handmaids. Did God condemn him for it? no! He blessed him with 12 sons, the 12 tribes of Isreal.
if you believe in ALL of the bible as the complete and perfect word of God, explain then why God blessed these men so abundantly for their obedience and did not condem them for multiple wives?

sorry for being somewhat negative. I guess I just get tired of everyone saying what an aweful sinfull thing polygamy is because it's not in the bible. Well it is in the bible. and Just as in the bible, God said to live the law for a while, and then He said to stop living it, the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints went through the same thing. I see no conflict with the bible.
thank you.
