What's astounding about the debates and the coverage of them isn't so much the excessive attention paid to periphery concerns such as Obama's body language or Hillary's code words, but moreso the reluctance on anyone's part to seriously consider a near future in which one of these two are President, and what that day will look like. Hillary loves to say she's the one who'll be ready "on day one"-- as if that refers to anything intelligible. One of these people is going to be the next President of the United States. It's going to be a radically different office on that day, but how specifically? What are the new priorities going to be? To me, and my colleagues at On Day One, these are questions we need to be addressing right now-- we all have a stake.
