In Treatment Rocks!
by MizzGivens
I love In Treatment. So far (okay, two episodes), I find it interesting and a perfect length of time for that time of evening (I get to watch at 6:30 PST). I feel sorry for those of you that hate it. I think it's a somewhat realistic view of the types of crazies that go to treatment. And before anyone screams at me, I have gone to treatment so I'm one of those crazies, too.

I agree, MizzGivens. In Treatment is different and bite-sized and showcases a lot of acting/directing talent.

It sure beats reality crap shows like Pick a Suitcase. Finally something new.

I've only watched the first episode, but I find it very interesting--I just started some counseling so I'm interested in the process. I can see why the show would be deadly boring for those who don't find internal exploration particularly interesting (most people I've met) or believe psychotherapy has rendered "talk therapy" obsolete (thanks Big Pharma). My partner turned it off after 5 minutes. Me, I'd find it interesting even if the people had less dramatic sessions. I'm surprised they made it, and I"ll watch until its surely swift demise.

Nothing makes some people as hostile as the thought that internal reflection with another person, painful as it sometimes is, could be worthy of our interest and attention.

Having been in therapy for years, this show is a great example of what therapy that deals with upper middle class patients is like. I thought the 30-minute increments would hinder the show at first, but havnig watched almost two weeks' worth of episodes, I think the format fits the various stories and the overall story of Paul perfectly. The show has very short opening titles and probably 90% or more of the episodes are devoted to that days' session. It even includes the awkward silences one finds in therapy and at the end of the session you don't feel cheated because it was less than an hour and only a little over 30 minutes.

I don't see this show being renewed, which is unfortunate, but I'm going to enjoy it while it's here. 9 weeks at 2:30 hours a week is good enough for me.
