It's the New York chapter of NOW, not the national org.
by Margarita
I bet there's a lot of handwringing going on at NOW's national operations - I'm SURE that if the national organization knows what's good for them, they aren't going to burn their bridges with Obama. If you aren't paying attention, it's easy to conflate the New York chapter with the national group, but I think there's a big difference. NOW published a press release saying that Teddy is still their friend.

It isn't that people aren't paying attention - it's that slate and other organizations who want to pretend that the New York Chapter speaks for the entire feminist movement.

This article avoids much of the substance of the Globe and Mail article. The article quotes the statistics that show there's still more work to be done. Our fearless slate author just gripes that she doesn't want to be part of an uncool, possibly even strident, movement, and blames the uncool, strident feminists.

The problem isn't feminism - the problem is that we live in an era of frivolity and lack of substance. People don't even want to take the time to even listen to anyone who asks more of them. That's why we have Bush; that's why we have this article.
