Let's all be honest. Teddy Kennedy's endorsement is probably an albatross for Barack Obama. MOST American's hold Teddy in the lowest regard (We take one look at his red cheeks, red nose and slurred public speech and you know, this guy hasn't been sober a day since Chappaquiddick).

If I were Hillary Clinton, I would be doing back flips right now. Teddy will drag Obama down into obscurity, just as he did to Kerry.

I don't care how many elitest ivy-leaguers tell us that America is ready for a black president, I live in the South (grew up in the north and northeast). I can guarantee you that this America WILL NOT elect a black president during this lifetime.

If Barack were to win the nomination, the republican smear machine wouldn't have to "swift-boat" Barack. They would just have to post an anonymous video of the presidential limo pulling up to the white house playing NWA rap music while Spike Lee films "jungle fever 2" on the west lawn. One view of such imagery slyfully inserted into the american psyche and you can guarantee a republican win.

Had Colin Powell chosen to run, he would probably have been elected president. He had an impressive resume and a sterling personal reputation. Obama is a likeable man, and I think a sincere one, but simply does not measure up to Powell. Questioning his credentials as a presidential candidate is not a matter of racism, at least for a majority of voters.

Carolyn's endorsement, "A Man Like My Father" is just as poweful as Teddy's if not more. These endorsements were HUGE, and anyone who thinks otherwise is in a World of Denial and angry and expressing Sour Grapes!

Oh, based on his post, I think he can guarantee being a dick any time he wants. As to his low opinion of the south--we've come a long way since a Senator from my home state used the "white hands" ad to defeat the Mayor of my home town when Mr. Gantt challenged Mr. Helms for his seat in Congress. I'm not so naive as to think we've arrived, but I can at least say it's not as cut and dried as our top poster seems to think. Although it may not matter: I expect North Carolina to go red again because of party politics and religion, not race. What our top poster seems to be oblivious to is that the people he's writing about (even if we assume they're still a majority, and not a dying breed) were unlikely to vote for a Democrat anyway. We'll see, I suppose. In the meantime, I hope Obama gets the nomination. If not, I'll still be voting for a Democrat, even if Clinton and Edwards drop out in favor of a trained donkey who "does math" by tapping out numbers with his hoof (especially after the past eight years--sheesh).

I know alot of people who claim that the south will never elect a black president, who are all from the south. Most of them are either staunch Republicans or reformed Republicans from deeply conservative families.

I don't know of any group of people more likely to be cynical after the last 7 years than staunch Republicans (and their disenchanted progeny).

I almost agree. It's tempting to let those slave states go. It takes some sick thinking to satisfy an inferiority complex so severe, it requires enslaving primitive people and treating them like non-humans. It still lives on in southern culture today, ya'll. The North should have made those southern gents and belles round up the ex slaves and send them all back to Aftrica after the Civil War. I know they somewhat tried it with Liberia but it was't nearly enough. If I were black, I would rather live in the U.S. rather than in Aftrica. The standard of living as a slave in 1840's U.S. was probably better than the ave.standard of living in Africa now. This is an example of the dirty little secrets that the PC mind police, who control the U.S. Media, don't allow to be said. Besides, it's in the best interest of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Liberal Democrats to perpetuate the myth of how bad they have it. Include the Jews, who are mostly liberal Democrats, in that as well. They don't want the blacks out of here either because then the focus might be turned on them and the turmoil they purposely cause in the U.S. to deflect attention. IMO, McCain can beat any Democratic nominee, but that's only if he gets the nomination. Otherwise, if it comes down to between Rudy or Mitt against Obama, than Obama has a helluva good chance of winning.

Are you seriously implying that the Republicans will do nothing against either Obama or Edwards in the general election? Do you honestly think that no one on the right will say anything at all about Obama's ethnicity? The fact that he is black will never be mentioned in a dispareging way by anyone on the right?

I'll agree the Republican establishment is probably hoping and even working for a Hillary run, but that in no way means that the Republican side will never say anything bad about Obama. They will, and it will have racial overtones. Thay'll couch it in some lame ass economic way, but it'll be clear to those it's targeted to.
