Or we could just be more efficient
by Sarvis

The American way of life, as was famously decreed, is not negotiable.

And so, the vast tracts of kentucky bluegrass and vanity swimming pools proliferate, and the heniusly inneficient agricultural practices directed towards providing ridiculously innappropriate crops continue as well.

And now we are going to have to drink doodie water to keep it all afloat.

Meanwhile, we fight wars and drill our backyards to keep the gas flowing into an open spigot of unrestrained energy waste.

Does this strike anyone else as tragically comic?

Conservation may be a measly personal ethic not ready for prime time, but this American's forefathers embarked on a perilous journey across the sea and settled this wild land so that they would not have to drink doodie water ever again.

We need to be more efficient at a much lower level then water re-use. We need to re-think all our nations systems; starting with the political systems.

Part of the political problem is that the candidates try to get votes from people involved in obsolete systems. For example, how many candidates do you see calling for a complete re-do of our educational systems that may, in the short run eleminate 1,000's of jobs?

And how about our government system where we only effectively have 2 political parties, even when they are effectively destroying this country?

See my web site www.saps08.net for what I think should be the major issures for the 08 election.

People in Canada have been doing this for years, almost every city in Canada dumps their sewage into the river that's close to them and every other city that is located along that river gets it's drinking water from that same river.

Before the sewage is dumped it goes through a sewage treatment plant which cleans out most of it and then when it reaches the next city the water goes through a water treatment plant which cleans it even further before it becomes drinking water.

Canadians have some of the cleanest drinking water straight out of the tap than anywhere else on the planet. We also have state of the art treatment plants for water. Americans should definitely follow our example here, even if they are too stubborn to follow our health care system where everyone gets care regardless of how much insurance they have or whether their insurers will pay for the treatment. But that is another story entirely.

what do they think they are drinking now? We have been drinking recycled sewage from day one. They ain't making new water. And we ain't the only ones that produce sewage. The world is the toilet for every living animal.

I wouldn't be suprised if most city water today is recycled from sewer water. Most city water facilities do an excellent job with sanitizing and purifying the water...at least in Cleveland, when I use the toilet, the water would be flushed into the sewer system, which then goes to a sewage treatment plant, before emptying into Lake Erie...the city water plants draw from the lake, and retreats the water that comes into your plumbing...and the cycle will start over again. Still, people do feel a little queasy when they read about "drinking toilet water"...gasping at the thought that they'd be drinking water that once had somebody's s*** and p*** in it. But that's what sewage treatment plants are for-to remove the bad stuff (the urine and feces, as well as whatever is in a city's sewers, including illegally dumped motor oil and antifreeze, leaves, salt from melting snow on the roads, mud, garbage, rats, and anything else in a sewer system) before it enters the waterways, to eventually be drawn to water treatment facilities to become clean water again. That water you're drinking now is most likely already recycled from a toilet somewhere.

Surely you jest. Everything is negotiable, including the so called American way of life. When packaged and displayed in the proper light people would and will consume once laden with poop, crystal clear drinking water, or any other consumable product.

The desire of having grass as blue as that of Kentucky Blue or admiring a beautifully tiled swimming pool filled with crystal clear water which was once poop ridden water would surely still be swimable to many.

Perhaps drinking the doodie water may be a bit harder to digest but I'm sure that with the proper attached label saying how tasty this new Previously Pooped Product contains no harmful PPP's, with a hint of Lemon many will surely drink up.

As for fighting wars and drilling in our backyards to keep the gas flowing, well perhaps this is so, however I don't know if you would like to be back riding a horse and buggy.... I mean they have a bit more poop then most animals I've seen, and drink a few gallons of water per day.

Conservation is by no means a measly personal ethic and if you do believe in this poop process then you would understand that it helps the economy, ecology and the environment by not only cleaning up the waste but reducing the burdens on a already over stressed system of purification for general drinking water. Taking more drinking water from another lake is not always a feasible alternative. This is simply another means of many ways in which creative minds have come to deal with a myriad of problems created by, well I guess our forefathers who embarked on their perilous journey across this wild land in search of the spring on top of the mountain where no elk or other creatures have yet to poop.
