My concern is this: As a Peace Corps supporter, child of the 1960's who admired John Kennedy and his often voiced concern about "what we, as ordinary citizens, could contribute to our country," I am concerned that both of these candidates seem to be centering their campaigns around what the government will do for us.
With all of their good intentions, they seem to lack an understanding of basic economic principles. If businesses & citizens are excessively taxed to support numerous give-away programs, they are choked into reducing employees and they return less money into the economy. I am truly afraid that both of these candidates are proposing socialism, which simply does not promote a healthy, sustainable society.
The question is: How can individuals be retrained and assisted into learning new jobs and providing for themselves? When automobiles were invented the buggy whip industry was shut down. But new jobs were created to replace those.
A larger government is not the solution.
