... watching and re-watching a few of his movies"?

Get a life!

Well, there was that article to write in Slate. Did you notice it? So, looks like Dana Stevens has a life afterall. See?
"Get a life"??

If you work as a film reviewer and a young actor dies, isn't watching his movies what your life is or should be?

And didn't "Get a life" pass its use-by date around fifteen years ago?

I don't care if you're writing for Slate, People, or the New York Review of Books, if it's 3 in the morning and you're bleary eyed watching 10 Things I Hate About You, it's time for a reassesment.

That's her job. No more, no less. And I'm glad that someone is out there doing it. When Heath Ledger dies, I want Slate to pay someone to stay up all night trying to figure out the best way to write his obituary. Dana has a life -- an awesome one, by my standards (or at least so far as her job). I wish someone would pay me to stay up all night watching movies (especially since I do it for free now).

I second that emotion, mthayer. Thanks for taking care of what should be the unnecessary task of explaining how it is a good thing when someone shows dedication to a job and love for her craft.

Once again, sentimentality blunts the critical edge.

"Once again, sentimentality blunts the critical cynical edge." And that's just fine.

Thanks, Sasha.

It might be, gobot, that there is a time for sharp criticism and a time for not sentimentality, but proper respect to those deserving. Death probably falls into the latter category. I ripped Dana Stevens to shreds in my Cloverfield post (go take a look) because she deserved it; that was a time for sharp criticism. But her efforts on the Ledger obit are to be applauded; it's not a nice part of her job, but as I said before, I'm glad she did it and took the time to do it right.

I think if your screenname is gobot90 it might be time to reasses.

Great article.
