Common sense, it will never work

Thanks for bringing up the fact that not everyone who is pro-choice is necessarily pro-abortion. I don't think many pro-choicers advocate women have abortions, simply that it be legal. What exactly are the benefits of criminalizing it? It's worked so well for the War on Drugs.

However, I would also point out that in addition to preventing pregnancy, that the factors that would cause a woman to choose abortion be addressed as well. Let's face it, even with increased contraceptive use, unintended pregnancies will occur.

How about really valuing life? It seems that a fetus is a precious life worthy of protection, but after birth, it's a harlot's kid and another welfare recipient. How about ensuring that there is health care, child care (if you want single mom to work), removing some of the red tape and expense of adoption (including allowing same-sex couples to provide homes), housing, etc.? Paid maternity leave would be nice too.

Let's make it easier for women to choose not to have an abortion instead of simply making it illegal, which addresses none of the actual issues.

While I agree that access to contraception isn't the only issue affecting the abortion rate that needs to be addressed, and while I agree that the issues you raise are among the relevant ones the author missed, that doesn't mean that an abortion rate of zero is a feasible goal. Lower, certainly, but zero is just not going to happen without significant advances in medicine (that simply may not be possible) or forcing at least some women to carry dangerous pregnancies, risking their health and/or their lives.

Zero isn't feasible. It's just an ideal.

and, common sense, it will never work so long as society continues to address this as a unigendered issue. there are no immaculate conceptions occuring out there, and the welfare fund could just as well be renamed the lame father's fund. until that fundamental discrepancy is addressed, about responsibility for actions and their consequences being directed toward BOTH genders, rather than father's giving winks to their boys and ready to have heart attacks over their girls, then none of this will come one iota closer to any positive resolution. the core issue is about respect- for self and others- and that is absolutely applicable to both genders- all girls are someone's daughters, and all of them deserve respect.

But by saying zero chosed abortions is even ideal, you hide the crucial fact that some abortions are chosen from medical necessity. Unless medicine progresses to the point that those situations disappear, zero isn't ideal for anyone who cares about the women whose lives they save.
