Fighting Words

Kudos to Hitchens as usual. I would hope this country would have enough intelligence to kick Huckabee to the curb, but then how do we explain Nixon, much less Bush 2? Canada is looking better and better.

How adorable, you support a guy ranting about America who isn't even American.

Why don't you go to Canada. You are probably a true snobby little elitest racist bastard, and all the other snobby elitist white people up there who feel the same way as you will probably comfort you. Get out.

Mr Hitchens is an American as of 13 April last year so find something else to complain about. Your post certainly shows you hate lots of people, Canadians, foreigners, snobby elitist(are they the ones who can spell) anyone else you would like to tell us about.

  1. Christopher Hitchens is an American citizen.
  2. Are you out of a comic book or something? That sounded like a knee-jerk catharsis reaction to, well, information.
You don't have anything useful to say about the actual subject matter. Get out.

Re: Fighting Words

" Mr Hitchens is an American"

Having citizenship does not make one an American.

Re: Fighting Words
by San
I'm sorry, did you say something oxala, because all it says is "waahhh, I'm too much of an idiot to come up with a point" in your post.

Yes, Canada is better.

Perhaps the Fray should institute a minimum age requirement. San, shouldn't you be in 4th-period Algebra class right about now?

We have here a rare (on the Internet, anyway) opportunity for civil discussion, and you have chosen instead to spew immature bile. Perhaps you'd be happier in another forum, one more appropriate for your mental age.

So what does make one an american? being white and speaking with an american accent? wait, that can't be right....Being born here? but what if your parents are japanese or venezuelan or estonian? with all that foreign heritage, can you really be american? having a history of at least five generations living in the US? no, that's ridiculous. what if my parents are american and im born in germany? am i german? american? german-american?

San, stop starting ridiculous arguments based on opinions and a lack of factual evidence. Hitchen's nationality or citizenship have absolutely no bearing on his intelligence or his ability to discuss political and social issues, no matter which country they take place in. everybody else, can we PLEASE just ignore San? I'm getting tired of reading the back and forth...i'd like to see and participate in more discussion of the article thats not tainted by insults back and forth (no matter how well-deserved they may be) (and yes, i realize ive violated my own wishes by addressing San in this post....you guys are right, its hard to resist).

"Perhaps the Fray should institute a minimum age requirement. San, shouldn't you be in 4th-period Algebra class right about now?"

I've been here for over 6 years, twit.

Now scram.

Re: Fighting Words

" So what does make one an american?"

Actually being born here instead of being a foreigner who becomes a citizen just so he can preach about how he knows what is best for Americans.

Re: Fighting Words
by labratcool
well, apparently you were born here, given how adamant you are on only commenting on american politics if you are american. except that im thinking Hitchens, whatever his nationality, is much more qualified than you to comment on the subject...

and thats not even getting into your completely arbitrary defnition of "american."

okok, i need to stop. San's good at getting people involved in arguments who don't want to be in arguments. back to the article...
Re: Fighting Words

"except that im thinking Hitchens, whatever his nationality, is much more qualified than you to comment on the subjec"

And by qualified, you mean a guy who lacks basic US History and lacks an understanding of how to type without shoving his head deep inside of his ass?

Hitchens has always been a hack. His brother has made that clear - he was born a hack.

Re: Fighting Words
by Paul J.

San, did you just invoke Peter Hitchens as an authority on a subject? Do you have any idea of the nonsence that flows out of that ultra right-wing, religious wacko's mouth on a regular basis?

Granted, thinking that he might tell the truth about his own brother may be excusable... but only if you weren't aware that the two brothers pretty much despise each other's opinions, and, on occasion, simply each other (though I think I've read somewhere that they're at least on speaking terms now).

Huh, make that "nonsense"...
