The Party of Ideas
by Archaeopteryx

Barack Obama is being blasted by his competition and other Democrats for calling the Republican Party "the party of ideas." But Obama's right. The Republican Party is the party of ideas: pre-emptive war, destruction of the Constitution, tax breaks for the rich, torture, butchering the environment, creationism, racism, homophobia, theocracy, untold riches for oil companies and war profiteers, corruption, xenophobia, and gutting the educational system. I'm sure I've left out some of their ideas.

Only one problem here
by justoffal

Obama may be an exception....that remains to be seen...but the Democratic Party is also guilty of whole sale sell out of its constituency. They have a different set of lobbyists and the payola comes from a greater variety of contributors but in the in end....the voting public is for sale and nothing accentuates that as much as the democratic support for the new, stupid, completely idiotic bio-fuels bill. Hey Nancy! How's the weather in Rattan this time of year?

Xenophobia???
by RainMan

We're not afraid of foreigners...we kill hundreds of them every day.

Jack

They pick their noses too.
by First Hawk

Now, what in the hell are you going to do about it? If the republicans are as bad as you say that they are---shouldn't you be advocating for a civil war?

"Oh you forgot too mention the 1.6 million abortions per year performed here in the US". There is no doubt that it is caused by the evil republicans; because we all know that the liberals love children (when they are out of the womb and taxes can be collected for them; that is}.

"Hypocrisy has no bounds"

What in the hell is Xenophobia?
by First Hawk

Is it some sort of soup? If it is; tell me if it is good and then perhaps I'll buy some.

pro-birth
by catnapping

republicans and other such christianists seem only to care about the fetus till it's born.

you carry on about the culture of life, and then you force these babies to starve, endure violence upon their little bodies, and live in cities choked with toxic air and foul water...

And just exactly how are Republicans responsible for all this??

Did violence against children stop, and did they not starve and have to live in cities choked with toxic air and foul water.......when Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter were in office? Does it all just magically stop and then start again when Republicans win the elections?

Homework:
by Fritz Gerlich
Define, and outline consistent rules for the use of, the following words in political discourse: principle, expedience, pragmatism, idealism, opportunism, prudence, boldness. For extra credit: defend, freedom, democracy, power, weakness, victory, defeat.
we're discussing values and whose party
by catnapping

has which.

the republican party's values include violence against children.

republicans tend to support corporal punishment. (spare the rod; spoil the child mythology)

republicans tend to support imprisoning non-violent offenders, while letting child-beaters, rapists, and drunks roam the streets. (check your own states' prison population...more than half are non-violent offenders. check the average time in prison a rapist is sentenced, a wife-beater, child-beater, etc...but omfg...let him get caught with a doobie!)

republicans worry more about women buying dildoes and men giving each other head, than they do about pedophiles, rapists, and drunks.

Well that's just a load of horseshit, Cat. The foundational issue of the Democrat party is abortion...hard to get more violent toward children than sanctioning their murder.

Not a single thing you said is supported by facts.

Ideas are easy.
by TenaciousK

The Democratic party could easily become the party of ideas. Ideas are easy, if you don't care about consequences.

Once you start thinking about consequences, however, things get a lot more complicated.

Consequences suck. Just ask the Iraqi's.

Very good point
by biteoftheweek
Though universal healthcare seems to be a really good idea. Balancing the Budget like Clinton did was a really great idea, also.
Those are excellent ideas.
by TenaciousK

What makes them excellent is the consideration of the consequences of implementing them.

If I'm looking to inspire a bunch of hopeless, desperate people, however, rather wild ideas might prove more effective. Ideas like - throwing out the tax code and replacing it with a national sales tax, for instance. Or I might play off people's prejudices and propose ending all immigration, or curtailing funding to "underperforming" (often, should be read as "battling against stiff odds") schools. When I think of ideas, I think of my high school days, when my friends and I used to solve all of the world's problems (between bong hits).

I guess I'm trying to say that I'd much rather have a half-dozen or so really, really good ideas than a whole host of ill-considered ones. Really, just a few of the ill-considered ones can spoil the entire mix.

Consider some of the current administration's ideas about foreign policy, for example. [Dude, pass that over here, will ya'? And don't Bogart it!]

Hi, Bite!

Look--I'm generally the one giving homework...
by Archaeopteryx

But I'm going to go ahead and define all those terms the way I think they need to be defined right at this very moment to demagogue whatever issue I think will allow me to retain control of the electorate.

There's some expedience for you.
