Except for the brief modern period, starting with the some of FDR's appointees, the Supreme court has been the most anti-progressive branch of Government. It has usually sided with the powerful over the powerless, with the corporation over individual, with tyrrany over liberty. The paradigmatic decisions are Dred Scott, the anti-New-Deal ("Nine Old Men") decisions, the internment of Japanese Americans, the "Liberty of Contract" anti-union decisions. The list goes on and on.
The current generation had come to view the Court as a guardian of citizen rights. Get over it. The Court has simply reverted to form.
