So Much Noise from Slate
by ellamenta

What got into Slate?
Today's issue looks like an exegesis of Republican talking points. You are throwing everything you have at Hillary, in the hope that something will stick.
I find it disgusting, actually, because I cannot believe you would be equally negative about any other candidate--and you didn't have the guts to do this when she was the widely acknowledged front-runner. Perhaps you have run two negative stories or hatchet jobs about other candidates on a single day, but when have you similarly devoted an entire issue to bashing one person? I don't think you've ever been so united in your message even against George Bush, and lord knows his policies and actions have given you reason.

I'm not a Republican, but I would have very grave reservations about voting for Hillary, and I sincerely hope that she does not get the Democratic nod.

My own sentiments have more to do with her husband's administration, than with any negative press I may have read. Clinton's administration may have had some positives, but there were also many negative aspects about it. To say nothing of the current administration, except that I would be hard pressed to find any positives within the Bush Administration.

And doubtless, many Republicans would be equally hard pressed to find anything positive about the Clinton Administration.

The true negative aspect about both the Clinton and Bush Administrations is the bitter polarization and controversy they have fostered.

Electing Hillary would only widen that divide, as there is no way she will ever be accepted by a large percentage of the population. All she can bring to America is more divisiveness and enmity.

2008 should be a time to look forward, and bind the wounds that the past 16 years have inflicted on the American psyche. Let it be hoped that our next president, Republican or Democrat will have a broad enough appeal across party lines to actually bring about some constructive change in America.

Which is something that Hillary, because of her close ties to her husband's administration, will never be able to do.

This is ridiculous! Mr. Johnson is NOT a member of Hillary's staff. He was there to introduce her. That means, to anybody with a brain, that he said what he said ON HIS OWN.

How would Hillary and her staff have known what he was going to say? He obviously added the part about Obama "in the neighborhood" off the cuff. At least that's the way it sounded to me. (And I've had to listen to it over and over again, on every channel in every time slot.)

An entire front page of Hillary attacks, including a "brilliant" piece by Hitchens, in which he says Hillary shouldn't be even mentioned in the same breath as Sir Edmund Hillary! Amazing. Sir Hillary climbed a mountain and he's a hero. Hillary Clinton has spent her life attempting to help Americans have better lives, and she's a no-account bitch.

One thing you can say about Christopher--misogyny is alive and well in Hitchensworld. There is not one thing in his piece that would convince anyone to "hate" Hillary. So why does he hate Hillary? I couldn't tell. Why doesn't he expend that much energy hating George W. Bush? If he wants a perfect example of power corrupting, it's right under his pompous British nose.

Nice going, Slate. And clever, too. Piling on Hillary Clinton. How original!

Oh Monica (hm.interesting name for a Clinton lover) it was just one day. I'm sure Obama will have his day of shame if his political history continues. He's made blunders enough in the past.

Try and be a bit more tolerant and sensitive to the unnecessary and divisive comments and racial and class manipulation your candidate and her allies have put forth. It is not really appropriate to suppress an open and honest discussion concerning a candidate for our nation's highest office. As a younger African American I am disgusted by the sociopathic Clintons and our parents' once-proud political party.
