I've spent much of the last year blogging the Bible for Slate, writing about reading the Good Book for the first time. Now I've come to Israel to see the Bible, to dig it. I've read the stories. Now I want to see where they happened and to learn if they happened—to experience the Bible through archaeology, history, politics, and faith. from: David Plotz

I'm the raider of the lost pot.
I hand it to my digging partner Ian Stern, the archaeologist in charge of this site. He glances at it and says, "Cooking pot. See the black part? That's where it carbonized. Probably 2,200 years old, time of the Maccabees"—the Jewish heroes of the Hanukkah story. He tosses my shard into a plastic collection bucket. "That's why this place is so great. It has instant gratification.
It's a eureka moment for me. Suddenly, the wars of the Bible that made no sense on the page are perfectly comprehensible. The geography explains it all: On this side is the backward hill kingdom of Judah. On that side is the technologically advanced coastal kingdom of the Philistines. And here, in between them, is the fortress line that must not break. Standing on this ancient hilltop, looking over a landscape that has not changed much since the Book of Kings—well, discounting the Israeli army base a quarter-mile below—I can see the Bible more clearly than I read it. To my right, the mighty nations
of the coast; to my left, a tiny tribal kingdom with only one god and the germ of a great civilization—the beginning of our world.
JESUS' Apostles especially Saul of Tarsus converted to Paul who like Moses wrote most of the Old Testament, Paul wrote most of the New Testament.
You must choose between the Apostles who wrote and what JESUS said in the Book of Revelation of JESUS CHRIST to the Apostle of Love, John, telling John to write what he sees in store for mankind in the "End Times," "ALL LIARS WILL HAVE THEIR PART IN THE LAKE OF FIRE (Check out the truth of the Lake of Fire when you watch Volcanoes erupt on TV, like Mt. Saint Helen) "Let all men be Liars but let GOD, Who cannot Lie, Let GOD be TRUE!
1. "Not that I first loved Jesus but rather that HE first loved me while I was yet a sinner and HE laid down HIS life as a ransom for my life for all of eternity." Therefore, "I am to treat HIM as my first love." Jesus must become the "Pearl of Great Price," that I am to trade all for because I know that scarcely would a man lay down his life for a righteous man or even a good man. But, while I was yet an evil man, sinning against GOD the Father, Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of GOD, begotten not made, shed HIS blood as a sacrifice for me. I must know that without the shedding of HIS blood that there would be no redemption from my sins. This act of GOD is like a Presidential pardon from "death row."
2. My passion for communicating with GOD in prayer comes from a "grateful heart" and knowing that I know how to practice the "presence of GOD" by entering into HIS Holy of Holies, GOD's Throne Room, as a joint heir in Christ Jesus. I do this by remembering the scriptures that I read. I read the scriptures like one who reads a novel that creates word pictures in their mind, like a beautiful seascape at sunrise described vividly by eloquent and colorful words. Then, I place my self in the scriptures like sitting among the crowd that were listening to Jesus' "Sermon on the Mount."
To the Editor, writers and Bloggers on the Slate Magazine website EVANGELICALS, who I will refer to as Fraysters I would like to share what I think about all of the Evangelicals Menu Articles and that I take it as a complement to be called a 64 year old radical-JESUS Freak.
I am an Evangelical who has been: A Contributing Participant in 5 Worldwide Christian Movements:
01. The Charismatic Movement (Dennis Bennett/David Du Plessey).
02. The Non-denominational Movement, Calvary Chapels (Chuck Smith).
03. The Media-Trinity Broadcasting Network (employee).
04. The Faith and Prosperity Movement (Kenneth Hagen).
05. Evangelist Movement (Billy Graham/T.L. Osborn/Benny Hinn/Morris Cerullo).
Fraysters, when I get in on the discussions on the EVANGELICAL Menu, I wonder if the posters read the Articles written or even the title of the Articles written. The Articles and titles talk about Christian Candidates, Christian voters and who they support.
Even the title of this website-Evangelicals comes from the word Evangelists. According to the Scriptures in the King James Version of the Holy Bible “A worldwide recognized Literary Masterpiece that has passed the test of time as translation of the Scriptures says this about the word Evangelicals, it comes from the word Evangelists: “And GOD gave some as Apostles, Prophets, EVANGELISTS, Pastors and Teachers to equip the (those who were first called Christians) “Saints.”
Man will laugh to scorn Christian's who believe GOD can make a Big Fish that was able to swallow JONAH, and Jonah is kept alive by GOD protected from the digestive acids in the Big fish’s belly and can breath oxygen in it’s belly 3 days. But the same man laughing at Christians in scorn who has a form of GOD’s creative ability can create a Nuclear Submarine, protecting 100's of men from something far more dangerous than the digestive acids of any Carnivorous Beast (A Nuclear Powered Reactor’s Radiation) and provide oxygen for 100’s of men to breath while being submerged for up to 3 months..
They also laugh at Christians, scorning those who believe in a Creator GOD, GOD Who Creates by intelligent design. Just think for a moment, if you separate GOD’s Celestial, Terrestrial, Microbiological Life forms, and our Universe, from all man made items on Earth, then look at those man made items, you could only come to the rational conclusion that those man Created items, HAD TO BE CREATED BY MAN’S INTELLIGENT DESIGN. The King James Literary Masterpiece, The Holy Bible gives man dignity as a Creative Being after His own kind made in GOD’s Image a little lower than Angels to judge Angels-FALLEN ANGELS, Lucifer-satan and his followers (Fallen Angels and men who will not receive GOD’S Pardon from Eternal “Death Row,” through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of GOD). Yet these same MEN if they are Condemned, waiting Execution on “Death Row,” would never turn down a Governor’s or a Presidential Pardon from “Death Row.”
They also laugh at GOD, Who made a woman from Adam's rib, yet Man can create clones (Oh yes Clones did not just evolve, they are created by man) by Man taking the living cells of the marrow of a bone and then with the DNA of a living sheep, Man creates by cloning another sheep and Man can Clone other life forms.
Today Science is proving that our Earth is unlike any other Planet, by sending land rovers technology to other Planets to gather soil and other samples to find fossil life.
You can use Land Rover Technology in the most obscure places on Earth, water or land and find fossil life.
I could share with these MEN, Scientist’s proof of something Eternal – SPACE and show them Scientific proof of A Bottomless Pit mentioned in the Bible, and that is a Black Hole in Space!
Also, I could share with these MEN, that after Death, revived persons in Doctors Offices or in Emergency Rooms, revived on respirators, testify of an out of body experiences in Heaven and in Hell!
PRAYER
ABBA Father GOD, I ask You in JESUS Name, under the leading of the HOLY SPIRIT, even the SPIRIT of TRUTH, help the reader of this article, find an intimate, Personal relationship with You LORD JESUS CHRIST as their LORD and Savior, because JESUS, You laid YOUR LIFE down in their place as a ransom for GOD’s Pardon, because without the shedding of YOUR BLOOD, LORD JESUS there could be no payment for our sinful rebellion against our Father GOD’s Will, Plan, Purpose and HIS Design for the gift of our Eternal Life. Give us wisdom (The beginning of Wisdom is the FEAR of you GOD).
You testify in the Scriptures (The King James Holy Bible, recognized World Wide, as a Literary Masterpiece); “That we are not to Fear him that can “KILL our Body, but rather we are to Fear and to be in “AWE,” of You GOD. Then with all WISDOM, we know that You are the One, Almighty GOD, Who can “KILL’ our body and cast our souls into the ETERNAL HELL, where the FIRE of Torment cannot be QUENCHED!
Help us to know the TRUTH that You LORD JESUS CHRIST are “The WAY,” “The TRUTH” and “The LIFE;” “no one can come unto you as your child crying ABBA Father GOD accept by JESUS CHRIST, “The Door,” The GOOD SHEPHERD,” that You GOD Chose us to be persons among YOUR People and SHEEP among Your SHEEPFOLD, before the Foundations of the WORLD!
Help us now LORD JESUS to confess YOU before man, because:
If we will not confess YOU before man as our Hope for Almighty GOD’s Pardon, than YOU, LORD JESUS will not confess us before YOUR FATHER, Almighty GOD!
Help us starting right now to minister YOUR GOSPEL and GOOD NEWS that You came not into the WORLD to Condemn Man, LORD.
Please LORD Jesus we do not want to lean to our own understanding because YOUR Ways are far above our ways. YOUR will be done on Earth by us as YOUR will is being done right now in Heaven by YOUR Angelic Heavenly Host and our “Great Cloud,” of Human Witnesses, who have gone before us, being absent from the body and present with YOU, now in Heaven for all of ETERNITY!
