bathtub babies
by wallenda
Let's face it: not a lot of women are into bathtub birthing. That's not the point of this movie. The issue is whether birth should be treated as a natural act or as a medical situation requiring intervention in all cases. The midwifery movement is not necessarily anti-hospital; it is anti-unnecessary c-sections, unnecessary induced labor, unnecessary fetal monitors, and unnecessary medical intervention into what should be a natural process. Of course birthing is always safer if there is a doctor nearby, but there's no need for the doctor to be in charge. The choice is not between a bathtub and an operating room. It's about letting nature take its course unless an exception arises.
