The Camorra is not a branch of the Mafia. They are ugly in their own right in Campania. The Mafia is completely separate and unrelated in Sicily. It is more correct to refer to organized crime, a mob. Were one of them to try to invade the hegemony of the other, it would be like civil war. They are not connected.

The present crisis is shameful and it had to depend partly on politicians who were either corrupt or frightened.

The article did not state they were the same thing. It stated that they (The Camorra) were a larger and older group than the Sicilian Mafia.
