This author is unfair and simple-minded
by Gibson_Block

The author praises the Iowa caucus because without the secret ballot voters were not free to vote their conscience but had to do what they thought would look good in front of their neighbors. And she calls this act of insincerity accountability.

Also, she claims that Hillary's pain could be understood by white women but offers no explanation why black women would not relate to that pain as well. Don't they get tired?

This author is quite simply racially-motivated. A breakthrough for a black woman or man would undoubtedly be a good thing for blacks and for the country but it should not be the primary reason behind one's vote as she obviously wants it to be.

The very nature of the liberal/fellow-travellor is inherently bigoted and self-loathing.

well of course.

why doesn't it bother more people that analysts continuously assert that people are only able to vote for those they either are similar to or can relate to? i'm sure it happens all the time, but people who vote that way are as stupid as the ones that vote for a party because "my family always votes democrat/republican/libertarian" etc.... i wish the media would point out the idiocy of such things and try and wake the american public to the idea of, oh... i don't know, using your brain and actually making a logical choice. Maybe then they would also demand REAL answers from these politicians instead of the pandering that they are forced to do because of the vocal majority of idiots that are running this show we call America.

The very nature of hyperbole is linked with idiocy.

and it's got nothing to do with liberal/conservative, etc... and everything to do with lazy thought and stereotypical thinking. Truly intelligent people are able to see the world is more complex than the way you see it, predicto, and are able to analyze their environment accordingly.

Perhaps the troll would like to mention, at his next Klan rally, that he considers all of them to be liberals.

Jesus christ on cross . . . sweet monkey bananas!

I can't believe slate would publish an article that actually promotes the idea of voting for a candidate based solely on the color of thier skin. Is this not racism in it's purest form? Have us evil white folk not been doing this for years? Why is it okay for black people to vote for a black president based entirely on his skin color, which is literally only half black, when if a white american does this it's old hat predictable racism?

This author tries to sublimate her message of black power by mentioning the tireless efforts of decent white folk before committing literary hypocrisy by detailing obama's struggle to get Americans to see past his skin color and view him as the AMERICAN citizen he is. The hypocrisy comes in much later when the author actually quotes herself saying, and this is fucking priceless and she should be fired for this if for no other reason, "Look at all the pretty black girls who might get to live in the white house someday."

????

Are you fucking kidding me?

Has Ms. Lacewell completely forgotten the civil rights movement? Look at all the pretty black girls that might get to live in the white house some day?

I believe what she meant to tell her duaghter was look at the lucky CHILDREN who might get to live in the white house some day. Remember Ms. Lacewell we're all equal now. Black folks gets to ride in the front of the bus jus like ever one else now.

How can this woman justify teaching her daughter at such a tender absorbable age she is inherently unequal due to her black skin? Martin Luther King is probably spinning in his grave.

Shame on you Ms. Lacewell, shame on you.

"This author is quite simply racially-motivated. A breakthrough for a black woman or man would undoubtedly be a good thing for blacks and for the country but it should not be the primary reason behind one's vote as she obviously wants it to be."

Because a white president could not possibly do anything good for black americans? Or the country right? What about a Latino president? Or a transgendered president?

You can't possibly believe that in the history of this country the only race or gender class exclusively upheld and provided for have been white men?

Where were all of you people in history class? How about during black pride month?

Are we as a country still so entrenched in our ideals of racism that we honestly believe the only portion of america able to benefit from a black president will be black americans?

I'm a white guy and I firmly believe Obama has the potential to do great things for a lot of people, no matter what color.

@ Shawanda86

Jesus Christ is right!

Shame on you for your overly-exaggerated response!

My god if this article really got your goat how do you manage to follow politics of any kind.

Subliminate black power? Forget history class how about reading comprehension class if that is the theme you manufactured from this article.

Re: I don't know nothin bout votin in no election Mrs. Scarlet!

What other theme could possibly be extracted? You didn't offer an alternative so I suppose your comprehension skills could be called into question too.

As for over exagerated what other kind of response is called for?

It's 2008 for fuck sake. I would think anyone reading such blatantly racist drivel would be equally outraged. WHy aren't you?

Really? I predicted Hillary's presidency way back in 2001. Declared then and there that the fix was in. After Iowa everyone counter her out, including her own lefty friends. I said she wasn't even down, let alone out and that like in the Outlaw Josey Wales Clint told the little old lady defending the cabin from the Indians to get mean, real mean when the chips were down. I KNEW she could do it and she did. Now, she's going to go on and pink every petuty that gets in her way as scheduled.

.08 will produce a Hillary/Obama ticket and the election will result in over 70 Senators going Pink and the house will be 3/4 DemoncRAT.

Let's just see who sees what around here, shall we?

How do youcall it, briany one. or do you see it as too tough to call. Heh heh heh. Idiot. You can't see the fix has been in since the evil One World Government New World Order Thousand Points of Light Sustaoinable Development Globalist Socialist Bush/Clintonss took over from Reagan. "Never more!" they squawked.

I agree that race should not be the sole reason for somebody's vote. If that is what the author believes, then I disagree, obviously.

However, the fact is, even in 2008, we have not achieved MLK's "dream." Just because he had the dream doesn't mean it magically occurred in real life. The truth is, black girls living in the White House would be an amazing event. It is something, likely, that the author never could have imagined for someone in her daughter's generation. Less that 50% of african americans polled say they believe america is ready for a black president. You can say they're wrong all you want, but a "Bradley effect" certainly would point in that direction. It would be great for Ms. Lacewell's daughter to see that this is wrong.

Again, not the only reason for a vote, but that's a pretty powerful thing. I"m pretty sure that was the main point of this article.
